"A US Star Trek fan has launched an online project aimed at building a working replica of the USS Enterprise" and is soliciting engineers (presumably with red shirts) to tell him how to build it.

That's not really new, i used to work with a bloke (nice chap in all other respects) who was quite simply utterly bonkers about Star Trek.
I made the mistake of showing a faint glimmer of interest (i was being polite honest!) so the very next day he came in to work with a massive stack of design manuals for EVERY SINGLE MODEL of the Enterprise that had ever been featured on the TV series and in the films.... 😯
SFX magazine features a fanboi collector every month. Some of the collections people have are just scary; the amount of time and money invested makes me boggle.
Makes me glad that we'd never spend thousands on overpriced / unnecessary kit just to maintain a hobby. Er, oh.
