I just found this - it looks good, but I am not sure a film can sometimes convey history as well as it should. hmmm

Every so often, cinema getting a bit up itself notwithstanding, an important film comes along. This is one of them. I rate Idris Elba as an actor and I think he can do an excellent job, as can Harris as Winnie. I hope they make a good job of it - I think it might have been a better idea to focus on a section of Mandela's life rather than trying to encompass so much in one film. I'm not particularly impressed with Chadwick as a director. I imagine there will be lots of stylised "struggle" riots and the likes, where everything is a bit, erm, black and white. All in all, I'm looking forward to it.

I was looking forward to it but not sure now. I like Elba but can't quite see him as Mandela. I hope it does not disappoint the way I felt Lincoln did. History is full of grey areas not often shown in mainstream film. Reality is nearly always grittier, more complex and interesting than cinema can ever portray.
