Sushi's not really my bag, so really don't know where to start but am after any good recommendations for somewhere around the Mayfair, SW1 area for sushi, for some friends visiting town.
Anyone know where's good? The only place I can think of is the one where Litvinenko (spl?) got deaded! Am after somewhere a little more 'authentic' if that's possible.
Thanks!
Kula Kula in Brewer St, Soho has a revolvy thing and excellent food. Note that its not fancy. It does get the odd celeb tho. Also Don Zoko in Kingly Street Soho is pretty authentic, a bit more expensive, but not extravagant by any means. Both 10 mins cab from Mayfair.
Just been to Maguro in st johns wood / maida vale after the cricket was pretty good for uk Japanese.
+1 Kula Kula. also Yoshino just off Piccadilly is pretty good. If you're pushing the boat out, Nobu...
Not quite what you asked, but Dottori in Finsbury Park is a really good little Korean/Japanese place and definitely ticks the authentic box. Can be difficult to get a table as it's so small, but worth waiting for. Also plenty of excellent non-sushi stuff on the menu so you don't necessarily have to go down that route if you're not a fan yourself.
+1 Kulu Kulu. Brewer St or Shelton St, Covent Garden (just off Endell St)
Really good place that I can't remember the name of at the moment, but it is behind the Modern Pantry just off St John St up from the meat market.
CFH asking for niche restaurant recommendations in SW1 rather than spreading the knowledge ?!
I is disappoint 🙁
😉

Up is down, left is right, I don't know what to think anymore....
My favourites:

Authentic Japenese. Dont forget you bows 🙂 Tucked out the way and looks a bit dodgy from the outside, but lovely and calm inside. Excellent range of Sake.

Not quite as good, but a bit smarter. The review is bang on: There are some Japanese restaurants with more sex appeal than Defune, & there are others with more atmosphere or lower prices, but an impeccable reputation goes a long way.
bit pricey.
Thanks, all!
Oh, and as above, sushi's not my bag, hence asking! Almost any other cuisine, though.....
BTW I seem only to see Japanese/London Japanese eating in Nambu Tei too 😉
