Due to the fabulous spring weather my log pile is severely depleted so I need to restock.

What is a good price for a couple of cubic metres, split and delivered, these days?

I’ve seen £140+delivery for 2 m³ of mixed seasoned hardwood in North Manchester, but I have no idea how competitive this is.

I think we paid about £60 delivered for the last M3 bag of seasoned wood but that was for delivery over about five miles. If you're in Manchester though it's probably about right.

Update - Just been quoted £130 delivered.

I'd better clear all the crap out of the log store.

Usually works out ~£125 per 1.5m^3 for a local pick-up delivery around Bristol.... given how much we burn each year (year before last was ~15 m^3), I recognise that I'm unbelievably lucky to have a free source of ash/oak/popular/hazel and enough space to season/dry it undercover off-site before bringing it home to burn.... if I had to buy it then a combination of less fires, more jumpers and a higher gas bill would be the result.

The country park where I get mine told me that hardwood was being sold to uplift unprocessed for £60 per ton. Soft wood was about £40 per ton. Transporting, cutting and splitting would double the price, so anything less than around £100 per ton would mean the supplier would be doing it for nothing.

If you can find a sustainable source and have the ability to transport and process it yourself it's worthwhile.

I'm getting a fourteen foot trailer laden to the max, a bit over two tons for £20.

£20 + a bottle of wine for a cubic metre delivered to my yard. Thats unseasoned (it is hardwood though) - shoving it in the wood store for next winter.

Bonus of living opposite a tree surgeon 😀
