Holy crap what did I miss in the press briefing today?

What's going on? Pulled up in my van from work and the whole street is outside getting pissed!
I've never seen every one so sociable. I thought we were in the midst of a highly contagious pandemic. Have we won the European league?

Yep, looks like a quarter of our street was crammed into a neighbours back garden.
police heli flew over the area a while back and I'm not surprised as i think there were loads of others doing the same judging by the noise

I turned out of a field into a street party in Burghfield on a ride this afternoon. There were 3 people, all at a sensible distance from one another (:

'We' won in Europe, don't you know!

Have we won the European league?

For (now deadly) tossery? Yes, I think we can safely say yes, we have.

For deadly tossery? Yes I think we have.

****s sake.

Cue 'Sombre Churchillian Boris' on telly on sunday announcing a few token lockdown restrictions being relaxed and all the pitchfork brigade getting in a froth.

All so spectacularly and utterly predictable. It's just pathetic.

Not bad on my street but the new estate behind our house are out in force, loud music, no social distancing, sharing food and grog. They're not chavs either, their houses cost a fortune!

Some doctor wrote in the telegraph about how it was irresponsible terrorism and that the virus would not kill 80% of people.

Personally if your going to share that shit in your Facebook or other social media you should be given a free shot of covid 19 so we can study its effects.

Just been for a bike ride. The gammons and gammonettes are out in force, blocking the streets and drinking bubbly. Stupid thing is they've all got huge front gardens.

I think our place at the top of the European deaths league will be unassailable.

Outlying villages of the eastern Peak like party town, everyone in their front gardens getting pissed together, sunbathing in the park, full works observed whilst out on the bike. You’d not have guessed we were still under lockdown.

Neighbours two doors down had a full blown party last night too, friends round for the night in the garden, I’m guessing that missed the press release saying go for it.

I was cyclical and expects the worst but after a pleasant run tonight, whilst people were out and about, there were all a good distance away from each other.

Just got back from a nice local walk. There's a party of about 25 people in a farmer's field about 200m from my house. Fectards

I hope they get Covid-19 'cos they think they're more important than the rest of us.

Meanwhile some other neighbours are having a nice 2m apart drinky. 👍

Plenty of people out in their drive ways and front gardens around where I live and surrounding villages and towns, all social distancing, plenty of music and merriment and talking to each other her over fences and hedges and across roads. Perfectly safe from what I could see and probably how the vast majority of people are going about it. Always a small proportion of dicks out there in any situation.

I saw a gathering at the local war memorial at 11am, all very well spaced. Other than that, there was hardly anyone around. Actually rather worrying at times, it genuinely felt like I was completely alone in the world. Crossed a normally-busy trans-Peak A-road about 10am and there was absolutely nothing on it.

A few people doing their gardens once I started going through villages and when I got home, various neighbours were all out the front of their respective houses on chairs and bean bags but all well >2m from each other.

well >2m from each other.

How far were they from anyone wanting to walk down the street?

The 2m thing is for when you have to leave your house for something essential. It's not a do whatever you like as long as you stay 2m apart.

Don’t be so negative, even though you’ve achieved the highest death rate in the EU (you’re still in the EU right?) you need to achieve more deaths in the gammon age bracket for Brexit to be reversed in the next referendum. A cunning Boris ploy now that he’s probably immune (and actually really wants to stay in the EU).

Obviously tongue in cheek Irish humour in the face of potentially grim consequences of above mentioned close contact 🙂

Eh. Being a chav is nothing to do with how much money you have....

Lockdown "rules" haven't applied to the majority of users on the forum, not sure why people have decided to get self righteous now

For those getting upset about it - this is what the government wants, the NHS is ready for the next batch of patients so take a ticket and wait for your number to be called.

Having money and being a chav are not mutually exclusive things, far from it.

White Merc/Beemer with tinted windows = chav nine times out of ten.

Similar where I am. Had a nice bike ride and passed many front garden gatherings.

In what way?

3 consultants and 2 GPs on my road. They decided early on to let their kids play together. Don't assume NHS staff are sticking to any of the rules.

By luck I managed to drown out most of the short street party karaoke organised by local pub, while plodding away on the turbo.

Pandemic social distancing? Just flu bro!

I'll just drop this in (for England):

During the emergency period, no person may participate in a gathering in a public place of more than two people except—

(a)where all the persons in the gathering are members of the same household,
(b)where the gathering is essential for work purposes,
(c)to attend a funeral,
(d)where reasonably necessary—
(i)to facilitate a house move,
(ii)to provide care or assistance to a vulnerable person, including relevant personal care within the meaning of paragraph 7(3B) of Schedule 4 to the Safeguarding of Vulnerable Groups Act 2006,
(iii)to provide emergency assistance, or
(iv)to participate in legal proceedings or fulfil a legal obligation.

I<span style="font-size: 12.8px;">'ve</span><span style="font-size: 0.8rem;">  discovered a new measurement of distance out on my runs over the downs. It's the covid. One covid is the distance apart that two people who are not part of one household but have met up to go for a walk keep apart. It is defined as a distance not close enough to define you as going for a walk together but too close to actually qualify as social distancing.</span>

It is important though not to confuse it with two very similar distances. Firstly the distance any teenager dragged out for their daily exercise will walk from their parents. Secondly, and this is to be observed in normal times, the distance two men who are friends but  for some reason don't want anyone to think they might possibly be a couple  will walk from each other.

Fairly sure that sitting in your own garden chatting to neighbours in their own garden is not against any lockdown rules or laws.

None of which stops a socially distanced event where everyone is in their front gardens and chatting to their neighbours doing the same thing

There was a social distancing street party organised in our street, I say organised, we had a flyer through the door at tea time yesterday. I didn’t go, I’ve lived in this street for 15 years and I couldn’t tell you the name of the woman who organised it, think I’ve spoken to her once.

Now they’re all pissed up, the few hangers on that are left have congregated right outside my house, some of them on my lawn!

They’re all crowded together, including the paramedic, same ones that were out banging the pots and pans in their NHs T-shirt’s yesterday night.

Boils my piss.

I have no objection that. It's the ones in the street I'm complaining about.

My partner got back from her shift in a hospital lab to see her close having a full on street party.

Some attempting a bit of social distancing, the test just doing their thing apparently. Kids running all over the show between parents and neighbours.

She is bloody livid.

House opposite me is having a big party but are trying to hide it by having it in a gazebo that is actually as big as their garden.

Honestly, friggin mental.

Though if you get your news from the papers you can see why many think the lockdown is over. Or that it's suspended so you can do your patriotic "duty" today anyway.

F****** idiots.

Our street, only about 20 houses, had a social distancing street party, everyone sitting in their front gardens and drives having tea and cakes, and wandering up and down the street having conversations at a few metres distance. I know some on here don't like the idea of marking VE day, but if it's an excuse to show a bit of community togetherness it's all good as far as I'm concerned.

It was enlivened by a neighbour's bees swarming along the street, cue putting on the protective gear and getting the queen* in a box and waiting for the workers to accompany her into the box then taking them to start another hive.

*Queen bee not Her Maj.
