its far too close in intent and time to the plans she outlined during the leadership election for her to distance herself from.

Yup, perhaps she will also announce her own resignation? She has now been comprehensively undermined by the failure of the mini budget, and so quick into her premiership, is it really feasible to believe that she might ever regain creditability?

Once a senior politician has lost their creditability the end is nigh. Whilst resignation would obviously be highly humiliating if moves within the Tory Party to replace Truss are as serious and inevitable as seem to believe, then resignation would be considerably less humiliating than being sacked so quickly after becoming leader.

The minor problem the PM has is that the tiny group of people who are responsible for this is basically, Kwarteng, a small group of no.10/11 spads and herself.

Everyone who votes Tory is responsible for this.

This all makes me think of the bit in say, a zombie apocalypse film, where the two main baddies are finally cornered by the zombies and the lead baddie shows their true colours by pushing their companion into the path of the oncoming horde in order to save their skin. Unfortunately for them this succeeds in buying them only a few more moments before they themselves fall prey to the zombies and are devoured, to much cheering from the audience.

He's done his job. He's made his banker friends a pretty penny shorting the pound. Once he finishes with politics he'll go on to some nice £500k a year consultancy job with one of the top City banks, pay routed through some offshore arrangement of course. Set for life.

I'm told that Kwasi Kwarteng is being sacked as Chancellor as Liz Truss prepares to reverse the mini-Budget

There is apparently a big press conference this afternoon...

I knew Truss would be terrible, I didn't think she'd be so bad that she had to undo everything she'd announced within days of announcing it. 😳

I had a manager like this once, someone promoted so far above her own abilities that every instruction to us would inevitably be followed by us explaining patiently to her why it wouldn't work, her telling us to get on with it anyway because she was in charge and then a week later she'd ask us why there was an almighty pile of shit and tell us to undo it all... 🙄

No, which is why many believe that a general election should be called.

As Greenpeace said at the Tory Party Conference, no one voted for this.

It's going to be epic watching Liz trying to distance herself from all this. By sacking him she is inferring she should share the same fate as she doubled down on everything he said.

I need popcorn.

Treasury sources tell us that Nadhim Zahawi or Sajid Javid could replace him at No 11.

I know that they're all about trying to climb the greasy pole, but would either of them accept the offer?

How can she possibly sack Kamikwasi and remain as PM after this shitshow?

That surely isn’t tenable?

I assume at this point, that he has the "full confidence and backing" of Liz Truss (the only prime minister to go to a comprehensive school, apart from the other ones).

I dont reckon she's going to U turn - she'll throw lover boy under the (deregulated) bus and tweak a couple of items.

I am enjoying the show.

And I can't even spell schadenfreude!

We've asked Liz whether it is tenable, she's consulted Minford and she claims it's actually at least twelveable.

We are in a time where Suella de Ville is running the Home Office, Grandma from Giles runs the NHS, and someone from the age of steam is in charge of Business. And JAMES CLEVERLY is Foreign Secretary. So who is to say where reality actually lies?

Ah, remember the old days when politicians resigned for pretty pretty things, relatively speaking anyway?

Now you can shag the whole economy in a day, wreck what's left of your political party and STILL crack on.

Amazing times.

Yeah, in the past the system relied on honour. That's gone out of the window.

How many incidents did Alexander bluster through whereby anyone with a scintilla of decency would have left. With all the scumbaggery we had from Neil Hamilton, Jonathan Aitkin et al it makes John Profumo look like a person of high virtue.

Chancellors.

They're a bit like Vader's Death Star commanders, these days.

Javid? No not a chance, he's not so dumb as to take on the roll of treasurer to a pm in a death spiral.

Zahawi on the other hand has form.

Top of Liz's list, apparently.

Possibly not top of Jeremy's list, though.

I think she'll need to set her sights a little lower to find someone willing to take on the job.

The other incredible thing is that whoever accepts the job offer is almost certainly not going to be up to the job as they are mad enough to accept it!

Mutually exclusive.

Watching a government collapsing in real time has a grim fascination to it.

Only three more chancellors 'til Christmas!

Yep, he's definitely going somewhere now!

Can't we just give the appointment as a minor prize in the lottery now?

I am half expecting a phone call once they have got through the 40 million or so more eligible people all saying no.

Like I said earlier, they have the audacity to give a TV award to Emmerdale as best soap opera.

The number 10 plot lines are ridiculous of course but it's always entertaining.

I'm not sure that's a bad outcome. Currently it's worth about £84.06 but that's half the problem isn't it?

Not a chance.

He’s far too sane.

This is Brexit Britain where to predict what happens next, you simply have to ask “what would be the most absolutely ludicrous outcome to this situation?”, then stick your money on that

Boris back in number ten before Christmas
