truss looks increasingly rough; pressure or over-indulgence?
Who knows and who cares?
Other than who or what may replace her; anyone for kemi badenoch?

The Peter Principle is in full swing. Although I’m not sure our Liz was ever competent at the lower levels.

I’d like to see Victoria Derbyshire give Truss a proper working over

Andrew Marr or Emily Maitlis would both have given Mis Truss a real kicking.
What's happened to Emily btw.

Let's see who has the most tire tracks down their backs in the next week.
I really hope truss gets slow hand clapped at the conference.
And stop having it in brum it spoils the air.

She’s gone out on her own…of sorts. She’s doing the NewsAgents podcast with John Sopel after they teamed up very well on Americast. It’s not too bad a listen. She also did quite a good interview recently with James O’Brien on his Full Disclosure podcast series.

Blimey. That is a surprising answer.

Makes sense when you consider Tory MPs will be thinking of their own future electability. They'll fall over themselves to put distance between them and Truss.

JRM got a "nice" welcome at the conference. There is a lot of anger brewing.

Benny Hill theme tune is on loop outside the conference too, I see.😁

Sounds like they are hoping to blame Chris Philp and make him the fall guy instead… like he somehow slipped the policy past the PM and Chancellor without them noticing, and then doctored all the footage of the parliamentary announcement and subsequent interviews to make them sound as if they thought it was a key policy of theirs.

Hopeless little squit doesn't realise he's being lined up for the chop, either.

I'm enjoying conference so far, how about everyone else?

love the fact that In one fell swoop she's trashed what was left of her reputation and burned every right wing "comment" writer (along with the ministers and saps paraded to defend it ) 😀

I have heard it claimed that the principal person behind the scrapping of the higher rate policy was actually Andrew Griffith.

Not that it really matters mind.

Well, if they did the planning and forecasting before introducing the policy, they are hiding it very well... and if they did the planning and coordination before removing the policy, they're sure hiding that as well. Still... bodes will for the next two years, doesn't it. Just keep winging it...

Well they did say that they were going to try a new approach, free from economic orthodoxy

It seems they settled on the ‘**** it! let’s just do it and see what happens…’ theory

I can’t understand why, with the livelihoods of tens of millions of people at stake, nobodies tried it before

https://www.timeshighereducation.com/blog/liz-truss-must-avoid-populism-and-plan-long-term

Well that's one piece of advice that Liz Truss appears to have heeded, avoiding populism, as opinion polls showing Labour leads of over thirty percent testify.

Referring to higher education?

By populism, they are probably meaning stuff like...

It’s like they’ve asked the sort of people who phone in to Jeremy Vine if they’d like to form a government?

from that...

Deputy Labour leader Angela Rayner said: "These comments show just how out of touch with reality Liz Truss's Tories are.
"Jake Berry thinks people consigned to low pay can simply magically upgrade to a higher wage job. This is a Tory crisis, created in Downing Street, paid for by working people."

👏🏼

Ah, been a while since Ms Jenkyns, my MP, did/said something stupid. Must be over a month now, was getting worried.

No wonder they are attacking the Universities - they encourage critical thinking. Last thing they want.

I thought the skill in being a politician (if you were inclined to go down this road) was to get this stuff past the public without anyone really noticing - not write and publish a book about it and then 3 weeks after becoming PM start acting it all out page by page

That and the skill of reading the room

Both of these seem to have absolutely past her by so with those two concepts not in the back pocket I don't hold out any hope for her to last more than months, if that.

I mean, this all would be hilarious if they weren't actually in power and causing such grief for people.

What are your choices as a Tory MP at moment? Just admit you're likely out of a job in two years and keep your head down, or get rid of her now knowing that that must mean a general election and you're out on your ear within months? This is your only chance I'd guess for a while to really get rid of her, voting against the mini budget (which is effectively a vote of no confidence). If she gets through this (and I can't see Kwasi staying long) then its likely to wipe out the party cdomletely (thankfully).

Westminster voting intention

Thicko question... What's the significance of Westminster's intentions?

Is it considered a good barometer of the rest of the country, or is it just a consistent benchmark to refer to? Or have I misunderstood the term altogether?

Westminster = the UK parliament rather than Scottish parliament. So basically the general election overall, not just people who live in Westminster

We definitely underestimated her.

I'm surprised that it's happened so quickly, but i had faith that she'd balls it all up.

What I still can't get my head round is that the Tory membership elected her in the first place, I was convinced that pragmatism would win out

Boris continuation vote IMHO. Genuienely think they think he was doing okay apart from the party thing. I don't know if they resented Sunak because he was involved in bringing BJ down (in their minds anyway) or they are all basically racist. I'm guessing the former but not convinced.

Yup, Truss made a big thing about being loyal to the man who's never been loyal to anyone else.

PM, Radio4... about to do a panel with Tory members... so let's see what they say...

"strength and humbleness"
"real character"
"doing the right thing"
"we can now put all this extraneous noise to one side"
