[Closed] Listing explorer folders by date

We are currently having a debate at work over how to name a file so that they will be sorted by the date when you sort the folder name column. The file title will only contain the date and no words.

Can anyone tell me how to do this? I currently sort the folders by date created but the other guys in the office don't want to do this.

Thanks

if you go with yyyymmdd it will work for even longer
I name my photograph folders in the format 2009-04-21
Works like a charm

my naming convention for all my files is:

yyyy mm dd [filename] vX_Y

where X and Y are version control numbers.
It allows you to sort by issue date using the name field rather than the modified date field which isnt much help when you start working on old files.

Thanks guys, I think we are going to stick with the current system. As they say, you can't teach old dogs new tricks and the yy mm dd system isn't getting a great response!

change the file names anyway, the old system will still work.

Force them to learn

Or not at all if you have any files/folders older than 9 years

you just use the full year, as noted above, rather than the last two digits

Yes, I realised that, just commenting on the use of 2 digit date fields being obsolete straight away, not after 91 years.

Use Bulk Renaming Utility to rename all your existing files to your new scheme.
Takes seconds. Job done.
