What are the good folk of STW giving up for Lent this year? No coffee for me for the next 40 days. It might improve my sleep pattern a bit.

Rather than taking a negative action of giving up I am going not try to take a positive action of doing some more exercise as I have been bad over this lock down. Could say giving up sloth.

Self reflection and abstinence aren't exclusively religious.
And anything that helps us appreciate how lucky, privileged and wasteful most of us are can only be a good thing.

Years ago, I gave up giving up things for lent for lent. I've managed to stick to it so far. Probably for the best, I'd have nothing left by now otherwise.

In seriousness, one positive that did come out of this: one year at school our RE teacher made us all give something up, I said I'd given up biting my nails. I did and I've kept to it since aside for when I break one and don't have clippers to hand.

My daughter brought up lent last night, she has been doing a no- alcoholic drinks (she is a University Student!), low carb, on-line daily gym class routine for 6 weeks, so she has decided to give this up for lent! Is that the idea?

Not religious either but was brought up as such. Every year I give up drinking but this year I'll only have a drink during the Saturday zoom call. Working from home I need to make some distinction between week and weekend.

+1

I assume it's got something to do with pancakes as they seem to occur at roughly the same time.
