We're staying in Peebles Friday night, doing some riding Saturday & then the townie vote means we're off to Edinburgh on the Saturday evening. Having never been before i was wondering which area would get the nod for middle aged pints etc. (none of us are under 40).
Not sure its necessary to travel the extra miles to Leith. plenty of pubs in Grassmarket area. If that's not working out, short(ish) walk to Rose st (other side of Castle). No specific recommendations but lots of choice.
Where are you staying in Edinburgh.
I like leith. Takes you away from the madding crowd to a certain extent but with plenty of restaurants etc.
Back in to town to finish the night at Cab Vol. Tidy.

I'd take Leith. Unless you want standard lads stag do then it's the grassmarket.
Leith decent pints good food.
IMO / IME the best leith pubs are fairly small ( malt and hops, Carriers quarters / Roseleaf) so perhaps only for a smaller group - unless you want a real leith experience and go to the central bar 😉
Definitely Edinburgh, Leith is way over the other side of town and has many less decent bars. I guess it depends where you are staying? I lived in Leith for six months I wouldn't go back there for a party unless someone had nuked Edinburgh from orbit.
Sorry, fewer decent bars. If you know any kiwis ask them what central Auckland is like when the mongrel mob convention hits town. That's a Tuesday morning in Leith.
Not sure why Hels dislikes leith so much, i'm sure she recommended living in dalry road once and thats an absolute hole.
Grass market is a hole too.

Basically Leith... Or Glasgow.
Leith has great bars - better than the town centre for me. Not sure its worth the bus trip tho unless you want good ale in non tourist bars

There loads of great bars in the centre but they're all over the place.
I'd probably choose Leith.
Town mostly has overpriced style bars with no real ale. Leith has character. Port of Leith is the best.
I'd be having the stag do in Peebles. One of my mates had his stag do in Peebles. It was a messy evening.
