I know this is likely one of the best places to ask for advice on this! Two questions:
One, who has laid laminate over tile? We have a tile and concrete floor (tiles are all good and floor is pretty level) Don't really want to be ripping it all up. One side of the room is most definitely asbestos. Advice on laying over tile?
Two, what happens went you fit laminate under kitchen cabinets but not right up to the wall underneath (so just under plinth) I've never considered what may hold it in place or if something needs to?
Not sure if at all relevant but it's two rooms, about 30sqm. A kitchen and 'snug' area (we knocked a wall out between these rooms). We removed the skirting recently too as it's just been plastered.
Bonus points for a recommendation for good underlay for this kind of substrate and places to buy floor (currently looking at Leader Floors, Direct Wood Flooring and Wood Floor warehouse).
The laminate flooring in our kitchen is laid over the top of tiles, and doesn't go all the way to the wall, just beyond the plinth. Never had any issues, just used a standard laminate foamy underlay (whatever was on offer at the time).
How are your levels into other rooms at door thresholds but the time you raise it 15mm
There are work arounds but almost always looks poorly finished.
I have laid over the top and cut kitchen plinths to suit.
Used 10mm XPS sheets from ebay as underlay and it significantly increased the insulation of the room. You can get it in different thicknesses so can use it to match in levels.
Bear mind your worktop will effectively be 20mm or so lower....will your washing machine still fit?
edges at the end of the unit need carful cutting to finish well.
