[Closed] Layer over double cuff shirt?

My office gets very cold and I want to keep warm, but still look smart.

What are my options? No sweater vests please!

Jumper sleeves get ruined by double cuffs. Perhaps there is some sort of manly wool gilet?

So Cold,
Slough.

Heavier fabric shirt? Undershirt (make sure it's invisible)? Waistcoat if you wear a suit to work?

Whatever you do, don't sacrifice style for comfort.

I think it's called a waistcoat.

Waistcoat or a plain white t-shirt underneath. Neither are a perfect solution but both are acceptable.

Not quite as formal a situation but in my workshop (which is unheated and I work with the doors open anyway) I wear a merino sweater under a shirt rather than over it. Partly because the layering works better that way - wearing a jumper over a shirt is like wearing a fleece over a shell - and partly because shirts are tougher, easier to clean and more dust resistant than the jumpers.

1. Double cuffs are the work of the devil (yes, I used to be a victim, but I escaped to the sanctity of a simple button cuff).

2. Take the cufflinks out and carefully store them in your bag. Hey presto: warm, no ruined jumper and not a tank top or hipster [s]noose[/s] scarf in sight.

if you're going to be wearing a long-sleeved jumper, surely the cuffs won't be particularly visible anyway?

Or, depending on how smart you need to be, a thicker shirt? Something like chambray or twill cotton can still be worn with a tie, is warmer than a simple dress shirt, and is opaque enough that you can wear a t-shirt underneath too.

er, that said if double-cuffs really are non-negotiable then you'll struggle to find a twill or chambray shirt with double cuffs. so maybe ignore me

plain white t-shirt underneath

I am not American!

I want to avoid resorting to silk knots and barrel cuff conversions.

Waistcoats make me feel like a waiter 🙁

Merino undershirt sounds like a good option. What Merino undershirt for office wear then?

Put on a jumper and roll the sleeves above the cuffs? Fashion conscious co-workers will be too confused to point and laugh.

If you're that cold and insist on wearing French cuffs (and won't follow any alternative suggestions), then just put your jacket back on.

Most of my shirts are French cuffed from when I used to work in a warmer office 🙁

A layer would be cheaper than replacing 8-10 shirts.

I was thinking there may be some sort of wide sleeved cardigan with buttons/zip?

Excuse me, is this a joke?

Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen?

Get some single cuffs and free yourself of your shame.

Go single cuff, double is either poncey, or aspiring to be poncey.

One or other of; T-shirt under or (M&S) sweaters without the cuffs turned back. I tend to fold the shirt cuffs back too.

We don't suffer these problems in the north so I have no useful advice to offer.

I'm not sure what I count as. Nominally Scottish I think.

My jacket is a bit too long to wear at my desk. I can't get away with a hoody and t-shirt I'm afraid.

I've ordered some sort of lambswool thingy. Let's see how it holds up. Wish I could get matey's mustard yellow jumper and awesome trousers though!

I wear wool or cotton vneck sweaters over double cuff shirts all the time. Keeps me warm and prevents me having to iron the bastard

Doesn't it wreck the sleeves on the sweaters?

Don't think so, but the sweaters are only for wearing at work over double cuff shirts

Seriously the answer is clear.

Iron Maiden long sleeve t shirt under plain white shirt. Nice and warm and a good discussion point with your boss.

That guy is wearing double cuffs!

I am not an Iron Maiden fan sadly.

@mudshark I tried your suggestion a while ago, but thin wool jumpers don't like being stretched over double cuffs. The jumper loses the fight fairly soon and turns into a saggy sack.

String vest. Seriously, the £30 castelli "string" underlayer I ride in, is simply fantastic.
