After having an Acer Laptop for the last 5 years, which I have been very happy with, it is now finally on its last legs.

Looking at new laptops and wooed by the glamour of an apple Mac Book. Just the normal one.
I understand that I am paying for the look etc, but I do use other apple products such as itouch and 2 other ipods and possibly soon iphone.

I hopping that anyone what as experienced both pc and Apple could give me some thoughts on it, as £1000 is al lot to spend if I cannot get on with it.

Just generally, I am mainly using computer for usual stuff as word functions, internet and downloading etc?

I switched to a Mac (Macbook) a couple of years ago after using PCs for many years - wouldn't go back now. You are paying a premium, but the built in software that comes with it is worth that premium alone imo. Everything is so nicely integrated as well.

i bought one of the new macbooks last year - after starting a lengthy mac vs PC thread on here

I have the cheapest aluminium one - and I love it

Really easy to use - the ilife software is excellent (and you will get the 09 version too, I'm on 08), totally reliable so far. Early days still on that front I guess, but that was my main motivation after getting sick of PCs that die on you and require tedious tinkering to get them working. feels like money well spent at the moment

maybe just check if things like cameras/ video cameras etc are compatible. If things work with a mac they work starightaway - my printer, cameras, router etc all worked straightaway

my phone can only transfer photos via bluetooth, but not via a cable, which is irritating. And I had plans to do some editing of family videos - but my rather old video camera is not mac compatible it seems

I use PC's everyday and have tried everything from just about every manufacturer.

I got a G4 iBook off here a few months ago, stuck a new battery in it and i get about 6hrs of use before a charge.

Incredible for £300, a PC for that money wouldn't even touch it and somehow i always end up using the Mac for general duties and leaving the high end Dell in the bag!

Unfortunately Glastonbury in nearly upon us and it's in the firing line to get sold!

You do pay a premium, but they are really nicely made and designed products, even down to the power plugs etc.

Bought one for the missus, and even though neither of us know all of the mac ins and outs, it's been excellent. Discovered 2 finger scrolling the other day!

You can run windows on them too these days, either natively via boot camp, or in a window (VM Ware being one example), so if you have specific windows software that you need to use, you still can.

Cheers, Rich

We switched back to Apple 4/5 years ago after a break. We now have 3 laptops of various models in daily use including the old G4 powerbook that still works a treat.

I need to run windows for some of my work stuff which is a pain. One thing you do notice is that when I switch to windows the battery life drops like a stone. In XP 3 hours ops, in OSX 4.5 hours easily.

I don't use the office for mac now as pages/number/keynote do everything that I need & are simplier to use.
I know that there are numerous MAC/PC threads on here but for me it's MAC's just for the ease of use.

I am paying for the look etc,

That's what you think now, but you'll soon realise you get sooooo much more.
