I have a Packard Bell laptop which has randomly ceased to work, it powers up fine, recognises the cd rom, the fan comes on but stays on and that's it.
Any ideas?
anything shown on the display?
is there a CD in the drive? sometimes machines are set to boot from CD / USB before the hard drive so if there is a disc or USB stick in the machine it wont boot properly.
Nothing on the screen, nowt in hard drive and noo USB sticks.
Its borked.
HTH.
any beep codes? if memory etc is unseated it can beep in a set order to let you know whats up.
could be a dead screen, maybe the backlight has gone?
either way if its not booting through BIOS and the screen is dead its probably hardware and its probably gonna be expensive to repair...
Serious answer, have you got a flat screen you can plug in the back to see if its the screen or the display adaptor thats snapped/blow up?
Its a Packard Bell you say!!
If there are no BIOS messages then what Chuck says
Tried a differnt screen, tried booting from disk, nothing.
I spend £170 repairing this ****er in January. 😡
**** it.
Did you usually see a BIOS screen when it booted (when it was working)? (e.g. a bunch of text at startup about finding hard disks etc)
If you did, and you;re not seeing that now, then it is pretty badly fried.
