I am going away from my home for pursuing my degree in videography and am looking for a new laptop for it. I know that MacBooks are good options but are they the ideal ones. Because, people are recommending the high performance windows laptops also. If Mac is good, I am clear that I'll get MacBook Pro but if it's windows, I am confused between Dell XPS and Surface Book. Any recommendations?

what software are you going to be running. Don't bother looking at the names of laptops etc just look at their spec.

The Surfacebook looks a bit lightweight and the XPs are a bit underpowered on both ram and graphics.
32-64gb ram 8gb video and i9 would be a start point. I don’t know much about pc’s but a few editors I know use alienware but mostly MBP’s I guess it depends on what software you run and if it’s using multiple cores/GPU and if you need nvidia which means PC only. There are laptops out there that can edit/grade 8k with no proxies.

Yeah impossible to know what specs you would want without knowing what software you're gonna be using. Obviously Mac will be essential if you want FCPx.
