Since getting a work ipad my laptop rarely gets used. Yesterday, trying to import a cd for my daughter, an iTunes update was recommended. I clicked the ok but now it seems to have corrupted the whole machine.

The pop up box reads.

Runtime error.
Program C:\program files (x86) ....

An application has made an attempt to load the c runtime library incorrectly. Please contact the applications support team for more information.

Any idea what might be wrong?

Thanks in advance..

First thing to try is start in safe mode and do a system restore to a few days previous then reinstall the iTunes update again.

I had a right trauma with those runtime errors. Only way I fixed it in the end was to uninstall every version in existence and then reinstall the latest ones (2005 and 2008).
