Mate has a p reg Defender and it seems the alternator has bitten the dust, or is on its way. A quick peak revealed that it shares a belt with other items which got me thinking. Is this an easy swap or one for the garage?
If a home swap any recommendations for where to get a replacement?

P plate is 300tdi terretory not done one of them

Its definantly in the realms of the home mechanic though

Plenty landy shops about - paddocks - craddocks - rimmer bros.

Id avoid the cheapest britpart ones. Gofor oem if you can

My v8 it was undo 2 bolts an slide it down to untension the belt remove belt Pull wiring and then undo the bolts then reverse

The 2.5td you need to push a sprung tensioner in and take the belt off hat way- it goes round the power steering pump.

Yep, done several of those. I think it only two bolts once you've got the heat shield off (if it has one)
Bit fiddly if you have big fingers but pretty straight forward.
Hardest part is getting the belt on and off.

From memory its easy enough. A long ring spanner or long ratchet makes easy work of the belt tensioner (or 2 spanners linked together) makes it easier to get the belt back on if you are doing it alone.

Then just a couple of bolts and the wires.
It may just be the brush box at fault, a remove and clean up or replacement may do the trick for a lot less money.

O and before you touch the belt draw a quick diagram of how it goes, and then draw an up arrow on the diagram.
