When did Volvo start making those ridiculous 850 T5 estates?

They were good for 140+

I was thinking Golf G60, but they are only 3 door, and not fast enough either........

Not true. There is the Rallye - three door 8v supercharged rally special. They also - available in LHD only - produced a mk2 five door 16v supercharged car. It had wider plastic wheel arch trims and 4wd (syncro) but looked just like a 16v GTi. Had 215bhp irrc and topped out at near 150mph. Was built 89 onwards (again iirc).

ETA: Beaten to it!!

Then there was the Vauxhall mk2 Astra 16v which topped out the wrong side of 150mph. Not sure if it was available in five door though.

309 gti 16v was listed at 143 in the books but if you were prepared to wring it's neck out it would crack 150 easy enough, mi16 was a screamer of a lump.

Did have a 220hp na mi16, all gone now though sniff.

the bx 4tc is awesome

[img] [/img]

but the non-evo version (which was sold) looks like 220km/h (137mph) top speed - close but no cigar

I think the audi 200 quattro estate or the 307 (if quick enough) is the best bet. the civic aerodeck is far too new

Ahh, Lancia Delta's. Lovely cars, came complete with a rust kit. A mate who part owned a hifi shop did all the car audio fitting, said that he had to clean the rust off the steel under the paint when fitting aerials. Never forget one leg of the RAC Rally coming along the, then, A350 across the top of my road. One of the Lancias came past, making an amazing noise. Then it got out of the 30 limit about half a mile away. I could hear the thing wailing like a banshee for several minutes, so he must have been near Lacock, four miles away. Insane.

Come on lads and lassie's thought you knew your cars.

MEGA FAST CAR EVEN BY TODAYS STANDARD.

Had a good go in one of these 10 years ago.
RS2 could run from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour (62.1 mph) in 4.8 seconds, and achieve a maximum speed of 262 km/h (162.8 mph) electronically restricted)

I thought of the RS2 but it was made in the 90's there was also the 405 t16 which had 210bhp plus and extra 20 on over boost and 4 wheel drive looked just like and mi16 except for 16 alloys.

I think that around that era (and if by fastest you mean top speed, rather than acceleration) then it's probably a toss up between the Alpina B10 BiTurbo, Mercedes E500 or a Lotus Carlton. Certainly not the Lancia anyway

I remember a test in "Performance Car" or some other posh magazine, comparing a Quattro & an Integrale. I seem to remember the Quattro came out top on outright speed, but the Intagrale got their quicker, & out-handled the Quattro. The Integrale actually got lighter the harder it was driven...as bits fell off. ๐Ÿ™‚

There were a few mad cars out back then, I had a 2.8i Capri. I remember racing a 1.9cc 205 GTi up the M6 at 130mph after watching Villa play at Millwall, the Capri could just edge ahead of the Pug' until it came to a corner/bend/change of direction >1degree.

Of course all this changed when the Sierra Cosworth came out. I drove an RS500 Cosworth the other night. (On PGR on the XBox).

Overfinch range rover?

Drove a cosworth sierra when I was 18. Scared the living daylights out of me. More of an old landrover type now.

These were quick. The CS was the hatchback, 154mph back in 1992. There are still good ones about if you look hard enough. For bang per buck not much will touch one of these.

http://www.classicandperformancecar.com/front_website/octane_interact/carspecs.php/?see=3287

Official top speed of the Lancia Delta HF Int was only 129mph. The S4 was only a 3 door.

I had a 1987 Delta Integrale 4WD (one of the 8v Mike Spence RHD conversions) and no way was it geared or powerful enough to top 140mph in stock form. Chipped and remappped it gained 40% or so in bhp as did the later evolution models, but without changing the transfer gear ratios the power increase was not going to change top speed unless the rev limit was removed - 4th was around 20mph/1000rpm, rev limit 6000 odd but in stock form peak power was just over 5000rpm giving usable approx 120mph top speed - the quoted 143mph would be at rev limit, which I think was a popular trick at the time, possible but not practical.

Was reviewed as a Quattro beater and I don't think any of the non 4WD version were faster - perhaps some of the evolution models which from memory added 16 valves and slightly higher boost in road spec. The 4WD handled well but was a pretty dreadful car from the view point of reliablity and build quality compared to the Audi's.

The Audi 200 Avant estate was around in 87 and that had 200+bhp, 4WD and 5 doors. Much better aerodynamics and I'd say it would have been the fastest 5dr in a straight line at the time.
