It has been brought to my attention that mrs supersessions' perfume stocks are low. I understand that this is a common festive purchase, if the increased frequency of ludicrous adverts for scent related products is any indicator.

What is the scent du jour* or do I play it safe and replace a current favourite.

Friday afternoon so entertain me with comedy responses - (as if an invite is needed.

*yeah i get the irony of asking a bunch of middle aged mostly male IT managers on an mtb forum for advice on women's perfumes. And before anyone says it, Mrs Sessions is not a GT85 kind of girl.

this.

If an unknowledgeable partner bought a random saddle to replace your favourite one how would you feel?

For the sake of the free world don't make it "Angel" - My 80yo mother wears this like a safari guide wears Mozzi repellent- constant application - clouds of the stuff linger in our house for days afterwards.

Get something exactly the same or very close to what she normally wears the perfume counter people in your better department stores are generally very helpful!

Is she a fan of floral scents? I was buying a perfume (gift!) last month and Gucci Bloom is delightful.

Grounds for divorce, surely?

The current Mrs. Pinkster did this a few years ago and actually got it absolutely spot on, which was nice.

There are so many classes of perfume and even some of them are designed for different times of day. Example: a fresh light citrus cologne or a modern take on that like CK1 is a morning or all day smell. There are perfumes for the man or woman about town, perfumes for a romantic evening and perfumes that suit different skin types. Asians for example will usually get on better with florals because sometimes their skin smells spicey and that interferes with orientals. Then mixed up with all that, most perfumes are sold with an image or a dream attached, as conveyed in the ads.

All I can say is that oudh is the smell of the times and as it's an expensive material you will find the best oudhs in expensive fragrances from Jo Malone and Tom Ford, both of whom are at the top of their game right now. So buy either of those and you probably won't go wrong - she might not continue wearing it long term but she will certainly be pleased with the packaging and the initial impact. Oh, and tell her to keep her expensive perfume in the fridge to slow down the oxidation that begins as the level drops inside the bottle. Oudh is quite fatiguing to the nose so she may come to think the perfume has faded during the evening but it hasn't and the worst thing she can do is reapply it; she will interfere with the evolution of the top, middle and back notes and overwhelm everybody around her.

That's my thread ^^^ linked to up there... FWIW, and at the risk of getting it very badly wrong, I ended up using BillMC's link and buying some CK Obesession which was sub £30 posted. Seemed very cheap but it's arrived and looks like the real deal to me. Apparently, they sell end of line type stuff, thus the reduced price.

Knock-offs are common as they are easy to make but I don't think a credible web seller would do that. Obsession is a bit old now so the price looks right.

If it's more than about two years old it will have an orangey hue and smell slightly of resin, especially if it's been stored somewhere warm. Send it back.

Clicking on this thread has now given me adverts for Creed Aventus on the main page.

Which is nice, as that’s what I wear.

Mrs North loves perfume and wears it regularly (but not overwhelmingly). I tend to buy one of her favourites.

So do that, but don’t skimp: buy the parfum rather than the toilette.

If you don't know, either you weren't paying attention, or she hasn't told you 😉

Time to ask a friend (of hers).

Either play it safe and replenish stocks like for like or make a note of the perfumes that she likes and head to the best perfume seller in your area and ask their advice for fragrances that are similar to your list of favourites. There's a lot of overlap in perfumes and it's pretty easy to get something in the same ball park but just a little different. This at least makes it look like you tried, and if you really cant decide then you can always revert back to playing it safe and buy straight from the list.

I'm disappointed that this hasn't descended to the usual level. C'mon "lady smells" is an open goal and you lot are being serious. Slack!!

Drac did try saving the thread with his gag to no avail

If only I could talk Mrs PJM1974 into wearing GT-85. I'd find her absolutely irresistible.

Globalti.

As you're the man with his nose to the ground, so to speak, and you have in the past informed us why WD40 is so appealing, the cheap mans "shalimar", what does GT85 smell like compared to the real perfumes.

*GT85 is real perfume regardless of what The Wife says.

PJM1974: cross posts, thinking on the same wavelength. 🙂

Jo Malone are nice, esp their Lime Basil & Mandarin which is absolutely amazing and I love it (so does wife).

Not flowery at all and a gorgeous scent. It's their signature scent.

Can't go wrong with it.

As with bike purchases a test ride is needed as perfumes smell different on different people. Do you want to run the risk of getting some smelly water that doesn't suit her natural odour?

Versace iirc does bottles of smelly in her and his.
It comes in the colourful body shaped bottles.

Or Joop smells fresh, kinda suits any age range.
