Definitely not. Some company is using for ads on TV at the moment and using quotes like...

"They don't make films like this anymore."

Thank ****!

Yes ^ 3

It was ok
Not up to the hype
But fun nonetheless

All the musical THMs play the piano pieces all the time. One company img a friend in a performance of some of the songs, so I can't escape it!!

Awful terrible ...no idea how it won OScars and for acting

Checked my phone after 45 minutes to see how much longer i had to endure

FWIW i actually like musicals as well it was shit on every single measure

Basically a movie about holywoood so they loved it

I made it about half way through. I just found it very annoying, so much so that now even the jaunty angle of Ryan Gosling's hand on the poster irritates me.

Several people whose opinion I value liked it a lot, so I'm happy to concede it's just me. As long as I don't have to try to watch it again.

Watched it with the wife in a date night. We both wished we hadn't bothered.
Musical movies are really hit and miss and this was a miss.

I am a simple soul and was disappointed after the hype. Mini THM senior who has far more developed critical faculties loved it and has seen it 4x.

We watch/like/dislike at different levels

I watched it expecting to not really like it and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

It was okay.

Certainly not deserving of the awards poured on it. But enjoyable.

No. Although I don't dislike musicals per say, I do judge them against Bernstein's masterpiece West Side Story, also a multiple academy award winner. On that basis, in my opinion, it's not fit to wipe Leonard's arse.

No, it's not a patch on real musicals.

Lasted about 15mins before I walked out and went to Café Rouge for supper... 10 mins later the Mrs followed me in.

I was half tempted to give it a go - I like me Rock it Ages so I don't mind a daft musical, but the real world reviews just said the main characters are just appalling people.

I hate most musicals and the theatre but the girlfriend wanted to watch it so I reluctantly sat down to watch it with her and ended up thoroughly enjoying it.
The first scene in traffic is irritating but get past that and it's good.

Watched it, liked it, loved the music, quite liked the ending

Mrs P was absolutely livid at the ending, no spoilers, but she was proper miffed and refuses to entertain the idea of watching it again

Watched crazy stupid love again a couple of weeks after and much prefer that.

I always presumed people just say this, but nobody actually does it.

I've gambled and lost on some proper shit films at the cinema, but I've never walked out before it's finished.

But even then, 15 mins is ridiculous, you would know more from watching the trailer.

Yeah it's a sign to stop reading the review...

Dire stuff LLL is, now Pitch Perfect (1&2) are a different matter, they're great

I did the same when seVen was on (the brad pitt horror movie)

Walking out isn't an issue, plenty of folk go for a piss during screenings and no one cares whether you return or not.

I wasn't against going to watch it, I like musicals in general but this was just a parody of one IMO.

I wouldn't be worried about what people might think.

Just that I figure, well I'm here now, seat is comfy, how bad can it be.

Also some films that seemed crap in the first 15 minutes will turn out to be great, so I would always stay and give it a go.

I can only do musicals of they are in an actual theatre, and there's a nice meal and beers before and/or after.

I'm out.

I thought it was alright but went on too long and like prawnys wife, I didn't like the ending at all. Cut the last 1/2 hour and I'd have a much better opinion of it

Can we mention here "Whiplash" which is the other Chazelle movie and fully deserved its awards - one assumes it was the reason they let him make LLL. Very very good film.

Yip, I caught Whiplash by accident and gripped me all the way through... seemed overly harsh on the lad but my.. how it turned out.

La La Land was feted to be 'amazebalz" it is just above mediocre IMO and fit for a sad Wednesday evening in when it's mid winter and raining and you've got noting tempting in the fridge to eat, so you reach for the monster munch.

It wasn't as good as the awards list would suggest, but it was pretty good I though.

I'm confused though, after leaving the cinema after 15 minutes, did you then both sit down at home another time to watch it ? Or are you "reviewing" it based on the first 15 mins 😉
