Good.

Bloke is a liability like his "boss".

Suspect his real boss isn't actually the PM...

Well he said he was 'going nowhere' yesterday. Has he arrived in nowhere?

If they had any sense they would put Sunak back in, as this whole debacle proved him right. and that may calm the markets (and I'm only suggesting it for that reason)

But I suspect it will be Sajid Javid

I doubt Sunak would accept. He kwasi kwarteng hasnt done all this in isolation its the PM calling the shots, even less respect for her if she doesnt go too

If Sunak had any sense he wouldn't touch this cabinet with a bargepole connected to another bargepole. And he might be a tosser but he does have sense

Shortest ever tenure?

Quite sparky - compared to Brown's 10 years as chancellor and 5 years as Shadow Chancellor. Is he busy just now?

Probably not, it's just wishful thinking on my part that this binfire of incompetents might actually care slightly about the future of our country. Naive I know

“take her with him”

How does he propose to do that?

Tories don't do 'resigning because scandal' these days, do they?

16 hours ago, BBC

Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng has insisted he is "not going anywhere", despite the market turbulence he admitted was caused in part by his policies.

Asked if he and PM Liz Truss would still be in their jobs this time next month, he said: "Absolutely, 100%.

Hopefully rumours he'll try to take her with him are true......

[edited, why does the site not support a simple cut and paste]

I think closing this thread now would be in keeping with his tenure as Chancellor.

Yeah but calming the markets isn't the only issue. Massive austerity (of the type which would appeal to Sunak) might calm the markets, but it wouldn't calm me.

The markets do not always know best, nor do they ever care.

Three of the shortest serving chancellors ever since 2019. The only one with a shorter stint died of a heart attack 30 days in.

I know this is a bit virtue signalling, but on the face of it, I would have done well out the the Kwasi budget (ignoring the financial meltdown)

That it will all hopefully be reversed and/or maybe targeted towards those who actually need it, is a very good thing.

disaster it happened in the first place though!

Surely he was only implementing Liz's bonkers policies? Will she deny all responsibility herself?

He's a sneaky fellow. Got Liz to co-author a whole book about their economic plans - behind her back - then tricked her into campaigning on them for months. So devious, can't believe he managed to fool someone as sharp as her.

I thought that's what she was already doing? I thought according to Liz it was what "they" came up with then it became what "he" came up with. Now she can reverse which ever policies have backfired (all oif them?) and blame the whole thing on him. Nothing to do with changing her mind or her getting it very, very wrong.

I have no doubt that Kwasi Kwarteng is far more idealogically commited than Liz Truss.

Basically because imo most Tories are, Liz Truss can be very flexible according to which direction the wind is blowing.

Liberal Democrat - Tory. Republican - Monarchist. Remainer - Brexiteer. Thatcherite - No spending cuts.

And 6 PMs in 6 years, with the current one looking as unstable as it's possible to look.

Strong and stable government anyone?
