Two kids of about 10 stepped out on me, thought I'd be able to ride between them and curb then they saw me, did the rabbit in the headlights dance and tried to get back on pavement so ran back in front of me and I ended up hitting one of them. Braked hard but still knocked him down.

He picked himself up and had a few scrapes but was ok. I wanted to walk back home with him to explain to his mum but he just wanted to go home with his mate.

Weren't the chav type kids that play chicken or pretend to jump out on you, just didn't look and stepped out. Stupid thing was they were stood at a pelican crossing just didn't use it.

Only upside was it was me on bike that hit him and not a motorbike or car.

Hope youre insured,

also a strange man to child,(as in unknownm to child or parents) runs into child on pelican crossing, then says i will walk home with you, luckily you didnt say i will show you some puppies on the way back.

Best of luck, oh and perhaps now may be a good time to delete this thread.

as a child was involved, i'd be inclined to report the incident to the police

+2. The story only needs to taken wrongly by the parents, next minute there will be a piece in the local rag about a hit and run cyclist running down kids at a crossing!

I'd not bother with the police thing, everyone's OK so leave it there IMO. He won't be doing that again in a hurry that's for sure 🙂

Like you say - at least it wasn't car - he'll no doubt be a bit more careful from now on!!

Go to the police and report it, I did when it happened to me, what happens if he is more seriously hurt than you think!!!

He'll probably go and see a doctor.

Dont go to the police, you will most likely come off very badly as they try to reach their targets for the month.
The kid is ok & hopefully has learnt a life lesson.
I blame the parents anyway.

Sounds like a waste of police time to me. Don't bother.

Kids can take a knock and get back up again. No harm done.

Just keep a low profile or you'll end up on the register 😮

Glad there was a goodish outcome for you.

I've been in a similar situation. 2 brothers were riding a bike, one on the seat, the other standing and riding. They flew off the end of a pavement right into the side of my car. The smaller lad flew onto my bonnet. It was that awful gut wrenching moment when everything seems to happen in slow motion.
I was driving very slowly into my aunties cul du sac at the time, so stopped the car and ran to shout her. She knew the 2 lads and she quickley drove us all to hospital.
At the hospital the parents arrive, the Dad strides over and starts to shout abuse and man handle me. Luckily the 2 lads were sent home with just cuts and bruises, but they were too shaken up to tell their father the truth. The police were brought in and all the facts given.
It was dark and they were also wearing black clothes, there were no lights on the bike and they were riding on the pavement, so all was sorted out.
However I never got an apology from the family. My cousin was in the eldest lads class at school and he made sure the boy knew how upset I'd been by the whole incident.

So maybe the parents in your situation wouldn't have understood that you weren't to blame.
