i would have thought that it would be the best choice for a kayak also

Unfortunately it isn’t black or marketed as “tactical” so it fails the saddo tackleberry test and will never catch on.

The whole EDC thing I stumbled over a couple of years ago when looking for a keyring (yes, I know). All I can really say is that it’s a miracle of the modern Internet that global communities of obsessives can form to share fetishised pictures of stuff like penknives or mountain bicycles. In days gone by only imagine how lonely these folks would have been.

Some of the US sites are just scary. "Phone, keys, torch, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles wallet... pair of Berettas and an extended magazine..."

https://everydaycarry.com/posts/15018/edc-dirty-leftist-liberal-style

That's your every day carry? I simply cannot comprehend how these people go through life, "just nipping to the shop, best take two guns..."

@Cougar that's simultaneously hilarious and terrifying.

That link in particular: *everything* about it says "I'm a borderline psychopath" then the Mutant Ninja Turtles wallet adds "But I'm a really fun guy!"

Apart from anything else, actually physically carrying all that clobber must get a bit of a pain. Surely two guns would be fairly weighty?

But he usually wears cargo pants, so that's not a problem.

I'm guessing he'll need a belt/braces thing like Tommy from Groundforce if he wants to take more, or just an EDC belt ( https://www.bluealphagear.com/product-category/edc-belts/)

*everything* about it says “I’m a borderline psychopath”

Thing is, this is considered normal over there. My American ex-girlfriend carries a gun in the car for "protection at work" - she's an accountant or insurance salesman or some such.

Surely two guns would be fairly weighty?

Ah, he's clearly thought about that, that's why one of them is a smaller version.

Two other scary things that might not be immediately obvious:

1) That wasn't any sort of targeted search on my part, it was simply a typical result when I googled "edc usa."

2) He lists his profile as "student." He's presumably walking around a school / college campus with all that shit.

My new EDC obsession reaches a zenith.

A nice man in Russia made me this.

I love the American EDC threads about church carry. Like, you have faith but not that much. Who carries a ****in pistol, extra clip and 3 knives to church?

Black with silver blade, theres a special edition I was tempted by but it doesn't have the serrated section at the base of the blade so put me off.

why would I carry a knife around otherwise?

Why wouldn’t you? Plenty of everyday items that are almost impossible to open without one, mostly plastic packaging.

That’s why god invented house keys. If you don’t have scissors or a knife to hand, the standard Yale lock key will open most things. Not well mind, but it will open them.

But is it a tactical, edc , house key anodised black, with a lanyard or carabiner on it and a torch built into it?

After years of working where I cut open bags, seals, boxes, cable ties, and all manner of other stuff the most useful bit of kit is still heavier duty first aid scissors, followed by a multi tool for screwdrivers. Obviously not as sexy as a knife.

Luckily, I haven't had to extricate myself from a burning vehicle, and it probably cuts paracord too;

Resqme 01.100.09 Car Escape Tool, Yellow https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01G6C18EC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_JE.xEb92KMECP

As for keyring torches, I prefer one of those slim 40 lumens USB-rechargeable jobs. It's Sod's law, and experience (maglite mini aaa) which dictates that anything with moving parts won't stay together once its inside your pocket.

Cardboard and packing tape, maybe, but there’s plenty of packing that a key will not touch, I had some tonight, actually a Lansky knife sharpener with a variety of edge angles, and the vacuum sealed plastic was really thick, my CRKC Pilar struggled to cut it, it was so thick.
And I’d very much like to see someone cut a zip-tie with a house key; even scissors struggle with those.

Edc is what you make it..

If its keys, phone and wallet ..why not optimise what you use, a minimalist wallet for example..or a very high quality tactical wallet, keys ..why not use a key bar or organiser of somee sort of system like that..

My edc uses multitools as I'm riding everywhere so the pliers and cable cutters are handy plus I regularly use the can opener as a finger nail cleaner and the scissors for minor cutting jobs. I do cut paracord/thick cord even rubber so they make a huge difference.

Also consider how you carry medication etc things you NEED ..I recently purchased a lever gear bit vault that's will carry 4 days of meds plus a few other tiny things..and now swear by it and wont go out without it..its simple but effective..

But for opening boxes or prying jobs the gerber prybrid is a good idea as it's not considered a weapon but a tool..I still use a gerber shard for prying jobs ..its cheap strong and reliable .

Whatever it is you carry EVERYDAY that's your carry ..I consider everything..like the promise ring i wear all the time a silver chain etc ..that's what EDC is ..what YOU use everyday and making your system work..it came from the American idea of preparedness but we have a different set of needs in the uk/more restrictions to carrying firearms etc so its tools we likely carry..

Besides the person sitting next to me will understand it when I'm letting them use my tool as they dong have one..and everyone laughs when I'm emptying my pockets but that stops when they realise it works better then stuffing a key, phone and wallet in there pocket and needing scissors or a knife or simply a pen(yes really ..I know very few people who edc a pen ..and are constantly admiring my fisher space pen when they have to borrow it ..because they DONT have a pen on them..)

I have a Buck Redpoint that lives on my work harness alongside my skyhook and Fifi hook. I filled the bottle opener tab off the Redpoint so it could fit on a carabiner.

I have a couple of Leatherman Waves that do the rounds. One in the van the other lives various places around the house. (Pretty much wherever I last used it).

I can never be arsed with the daft wee screwdrivers or what not. I'd rather use a proper tool if I can.

Not a knife carrier (banned at work and already lost two to contaminated bunds) but my go to tool is a Wera Kraftform Kompakt 20 and an 8" Bahco shifter (also illegal, shh!).

If anyone has a suggestion for a multitool that can combine all three I'm all ears. Also needs to be easily cleanable so as simple as possible.

Oh and the point of the paracord is that it's supposed to be another handy thing to have.

@squirrelking, with you regarding the paracord, really handy stuff. I’ve replaced all the tent cords with it, using some with a reflective weave to make it more visible in the dark, replaced bootlaces, small pieces knotted and used as zip pulls, lanyards for items that otherwise fall out of pockets...
As far as those tools are concerned, they’re so specialised that anything else would be a compromise, and not function as well, I think. The Bahco looks like a suitable tool for beating off zombies, people stockpiling bog rolls and anyone trying to make off with the Wera!

Basically my EDC is a folding stanley blade carrier and a pocket full of baler twine.

welshfarmer, have you considered the possibilities of bailing wire and snips? (or is that too bulky for edc)

PS. As soon as I saw this thread I knew the "Wahhhh stop liking things I don't like!" brigade would be here.

Joyless, self righteous, knee-jerk critical of other peoples interests and obsessions where they differ from their own?

They'll never know the joy of finding or inventing (or helping someone else find) a better tool or way of doing something, because of the certainty that they know everything already.

Did someone stand over you as a child and enforce the colours you were allowed to draw with and the things you were allowed to paint?

Poor child.

Just bought meself a new backpack as I needed something bigger and ended up getting the "mil-spec" Camelbak HAWG with the Crux bladder as it was a good priced and about the size I needed for commuting. Yeah it's a bit lot tacti-cool but it's black and hopefully not to overtly mall-ninja. Got plenty of pockets for 27 knives, 3 back up torches and a few Israeli trauma kits. Well, you never know. 😉

See, I used to carry my Trek backpack everywhere, tons of room for everything and anything. Since the zip broke and I've not got round to fixing it I've realised I never needed any of it. It was just shite I was lugging about for no real reason other than "just in case". Thats the trap you need to avoid falling into.

mall-ninja

Oh dear god you've triggered an internet flashback...

(or should that be flashbang?)

Welshfarmers pic above is one of the many reasons why I use to carry a knife when I worked in the field.

Love my Camelbak HAWG (Maximum Gear version) and have been using it for work solidly for almost 3 years as well as it doubling up for use at the weekend etc. and it still looks minty fresh.
Only got 26 knives in mine though...😉

Well turns out I ordered the coyote brown version as it made more sense to not have a black back when we get temps around 40c I had a cycling hawg a few years ago but the zips broke. Not sure if it's just the Mil spec but I think they have lifetime warranty. I do carry a fair bit of stuff anyway so it'll get used for sure.

Haha, small world, I used to live just off the Penn Road.

Mine came with the 3l antidote reservoir, I got it on eBay from a company in the States, I somehow managed to avoid the import duty etc so it came in at around £92 delivered.
