2 new Olight in the collection - copper i5t EOS and a copper S2R Baton 2. Both getting lovely patina (actually the i5t looks better).
Also spent an evening sharpening knives - can HIGHLY recommend the Lansky diamond system. Dare I say it, it's idiot proof.
Here’s my HAWG…
That slogan now not entirely zeitgeist 🙂
I got a little Gerber fold out knife a wee while back for a camping/packrafting trip and seemed to have lost the Opinel I had before.
However, I've started taking to carting it around with me along with phone, keys and bank card these days and found it surprisingly useful.
Did someone stand over you as a child and enforce the colours you were allowed to draw with and the things you were allowed to paint?
Only five colours of wax crayons, and a pair of plastic scissors with rounded ends!
Speaking of scissors, and running with them, someone mentioned medical scissors back a ways, and they’re excellent things to carry in a bag, and dead cheap, too. Only problem is the blunt ends make it difficult to cut things like zip ties, ‘cos you can’t get the tip or point into the loop to cut it, which is where my little Spyderco excels.

There are occasions when a slightly more substantial pair of scissors would be useful, something like these:

Leatherman Raptor paramedic shears, the blades are about 5mm thick with a serrated edge on one blade, a seatbelt cutter, oxygen bottle wrench and a ring cutter.
Tough enough so if you can’t get a person’s ring off, you could cut the finger off with the scissors! 😉
Drop recently had a special offer on a flashlight recently which I couldn’t resist, and it ticks all the tactical boxes! It’s black, it’s got a strike crown, it’s got instant-on press on the tailcap button, and a side button on the tailcap that gives instant strobe, plus it cycles through the modes once the main tailcap button is fully pressed, and the last mode selected is what it turns on to. It charges via a magnetic connector on the front side of the light with a USB cable, so no having to keep taking the battery out.
It uses a high-discharge 18650 Li-ion cell, and puts out 2550 lumens at full wack - you can feel heat from the light on your hand.
It can have the tailcap swapped for one with a remote switch for firearm mounting as well!

oxygen bottle wrench
"US standard" apparently?
Gotta say though, they look ace.
Just bought this torch, the RovyVon Aurora A4x ti. It’s tiny but can output 650 lumens. It’s very impressive.

I’m after a new pocketknife after mine has been snaffled by my smallest child. Something as simple and plain as possible, just a single blade, but decent quality. Up to about £25 maybe. Something like this would be ideal, except I’ve read that newer ones have steel that goes blunt too quickly - dunno if that’s true or not?

Just bought this torch, the RovyVon Aurora A4x ti.
That's very, very nice.
This has been on my keyring for a couple of years: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B06WLMSVYF It throws out an astonishing amount of light for the size, and yours is like 5x mine.
@thegreatape Have a look at that Gerber I got - seems to meet your requirements. Was £25 I think and that was just walking into a shop and going "got any knives?" - not exactly shopping around.
I’ve just been looking for it! Straightlace is its name apparently. I assume it’s lasting well? How does it compare to a Victorinox knife, if you’re able to?
@thegreatape a Gerber Paraframe 1 might do the trick.
Gerber Para Frame 1 Fine Edge Pocket Knife - Silver https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000JJJ2UG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_FZFPEbW0BKWX6
Thanks, I like the look of that one too.
I'll just point out that the Paraframe has a locking blade, which makes it illegal in the UK. Maybe that doesn't bother you, it's just it put m off when I was considering it.
Ah yes. Probably something I should bear in mind!
TGA, as much as I like Victorinox (and have quite a few multitool knives of theres) there are slightly better blades out there for a similar price, especially if you want a single-blade knife.
Have a look at Böker? They use a Sandvik steel developed specifically for knives. I was itching to get a small simple knife for keyring, looked at SAK (Pioneer, silver Alox) but couldn’t decide so ... grabbed a boot sale special for time-being. I do still have an itch for a decent simple pocket knife. ie maybe
Böker Plus Tech-Tool 1 (Ebony):

I have no real frame of reference when it comes to knives, so can't really compare to any other.
Em, it is sharp. It feels well made. It is a little heavier than the Opinel I had which had a similar length of blade. It has a little clip to hold on your pockets or whatever, or you can put a lanyard through it (you don't get a lanyard in the box). I like the colours which is mostly why I bought it.
They had one called a Wingtip next to it in the shop but its blade seemed a little too short.
I really like the idea of EDC or at least when it is used in context of being prepared to most things happening during working day.
Being middle aged IT person it means that most weapon-like thing I carry are Victorinox nail clippers but work bag contains several different USB cables, headset, Jabra conference speaker, few pens and pencils, chargers and lots of ibuprofen.
YGH thanks. It does look good I agree.
As do the Boker ones. I can see myself ending up ordering several to have a proper look at them all.
Haha I’ve lost the plot with birthday money burning cutting a hole in my pocket. What’s the betting I’ll settle on yet another smaller SAK to replace the old trusty (now lost) Camper, because ‘if only I had an awl/scissors/etc (mix and match foresight of possible ‘emergencies’)...
TGA the Ruike S11 is very similar to Böker Plus 1, with (IIC) the same steel? Yet about half of the price.
Arthur Wright still do some attractive, traditional folders...
I’ll just point out that the Paraframe has a locking blade, which makes it illegal in the UK.
Oops, I didn't realise that. 🙁
In my defence it's main use is for opening Amazon parcels. It doesn't leave the house.
Oh bugger. Olight Aus have said there's 30% off tomorrow's Torch Tuesday
I don't needanother one, but the 2000lumen Perun with 30% is tempting...
Angel / Devil moment
Damn it, don't tempt me.
Re: Gerber knives. I've got a pocket square - top of pic (also got a Skeletool CX since I took this pic)
It's blunt as a banana out of the box - sharpened it a bit since, but not to the edge it really should be

As well as tiny torches I’ve bought a few pocket tools, primarily knife based. I particularly like the BigiDesign TPT Slider (on the left below)

Can anyone recommend an actually pocket size saw, rather than just a folding saw? So like the one on a Swiss army knife? Its for cutting fallen branches on walks with my kids, making walking sticks (or "swords").
Don't really need the other blades of a SAK so wondered if there's something that fits in your pocket but isn't too full on.
I finally replaced the lost SAK Camper (used mainly for cooking, cutting, sawing and grooming) with a combination of
Keyring kit: Alox SD Classic
Single-blade (legal-carry) budget-price folder: Schrade ‘Imperial’ (small sodbuster). Was about a tenner from Heinnie. Really like the handle as they keep the old rounded/ergonomic handle (as per the older Case-branded versions). It’s ‘400-series stainless’ which probably means low-grade something or other. I’ll just be sure to maintain it.

Sharpener: Victorinox ceramic combination sharpener
Very impressed with all three for what they are. Though Victorinox arrived with the blade catching on the file when folding/unfolding. I just cold-set it straight in the vice with gentle springing. Really tight tolerance to begin with so no biggie.
The small sodbuster is a nice cheap and cheerful little knife to hold, carry and to work with. Early days to know how it holds an edge. It didn’t arrive too sharp so gave it a razz on the stone. Now it’s cutting mushies and toms to paper-thin slices.
At home:
I keep a small Whitby alu/stainless locking-knife that I found in the street decades ago. Plan is to restore it, mirror-polish blade and make some custom wooden scales then use for whittling etc.
Unused - the tiny Richards Of Sheffield folding penkife. Bought it from a bootsale for £1.50, couldn’t resist. Used on keyring but replaced now with the little SAK)
Last (but most) - a Swiss Champ for all-round multitool. It was a really nice gift, and is an amazing bit of kit. Saves opening and rummaging through toolbox 80% of the time (for all those little jobs). Gets carried in pack for longer walks or bikepacking.
(Fetishy pic incoming)

@colonel wax - Opinel do a folding saw to the same design as their pocket knives, just bigger, and a perfect size for sticking in a pocket, even a jeans or shorts pocket. Very sharp and aggressive teeth, ideal for what you want, and easier to use than the little saw blade on a SAK.
The blade is 12cm long.

My Gerber MT800 multitool has a removable saw blade, and comes with a Remgrit blade, but I found a pack of Black & Decker fitting jigsaw blades that fitted, of different lengths, that I can swap over, although most are too long to fit into the handle; it extends the usability for cutting branches and sticks.
@howardthp
👍
Ordered another Olight - this time the Warrior X Pro
So will have the Copper i5t (in my backpack), a copper S2R II (on the L dock in the kitchen), a Seeker 2 Pro (in the car) and a nice W x Pro on order. 2250l and 600m beam on high output - spotty too.
I don't need any more torches. (But I might want more torches).
I like the look of the TPT slide. I find generally i want a "knife" what it want is a very precise blade, more like a stanley knife. an every day knife that thin would dull and get broken really quick i think.
the TPT looks good, but i think this looks better, is half the price, and I still cant think how the mechanism must work, so also add "its witchcraft" to the list too
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1496249101/maker-knife-the-edc-pocket-tool-you-want-to-carry
Have a look at the Gerber EAB, it's really very good
I also have a few cheaper knock offs from China, really useful little knives for jobs that you know will kill the blade
@colonel wax - it’s a good saw, just watch the teeth, they’re sharp! If you’re cutting sticks for walking with, or just a bit of trail clearance, it’ll rip through pretty quickly, but the blade is quite flexy, so take it easy.
Like their knives, it’s basic, but very efficient. And did I say sharp?
😁

I mean, $80 for something that takes a Stanley knife blade?
I've got a case knife somewhere that a mate gave me from when he worked at Morrisons in the early 90s. It takes a single-edged razor blade and does exactly the same job. I'll hoy up a photo later if I can find it.
hahaha
I hear ya Cougar.
I do love EDC but I really don't see the excitement with pry bars. How much stuff do you pry? I can't recall tbh. Probs a paint can. Also probs used a screwdriver.
Thanks to whoever recommended the Hultafors chisel knife. Ordered one after seeing it on here and it's had plenty use already!
*Waves*
Great for prying 🙂

Know what you mean, it’s a trick bit of engineering, and very compact, but there are similar and very much cheaper things about. I’ve got a Rolson utility knife that takes Stanley blades, it’s a folding knife, so fairly bulky and not as easily tucked into a pocket, but it was very cheap, about £5-6 I think.
Still, if you can afford it, why not, after all, there are people who’ll happily pay £5-600 for a little handbag because it’s got some detail that last year’s £5-600 bag didn’t have...
Just for the hell of it I’ve done an EDC photo of the junk I carry around in my pockets, sans phone and wallet. My Gerber MT800 multitool has the two extra saw blades alongside it, just to show them.

I'd really like to see a deconstruction of that keyring bunch top-left, if you'd care to indulge me?
@CountZero that monkey fist wouldn't be packing an S/S steel ball?
