Knight Rider was ace, especially for its dedication to the 'evil doppelgänger' trope. Everyone had an evil twin, even K.I.T.T! Fun fact - K.I.T.T's evil twin, K.A.R.R, was voiced by Peter Cullen, who was also the voice of Optimus Prime and Venger.

Knight Industries Two Thousand.
Knight Automotive Roving Robot.

Ahem.

And there was the evil lorry too, who's name escapes me.

Goliath was driven by his evil twin as well!

I also seem to remember he escaped the desert, after KITT was trashed by Goliath, by building a Ramjet using the exhaust manifold and a pair of shoe laces and then driving out of the desert at mach 6, or something like that....

Garth, the orginal Mr Knight - Michael 'Knight' was surgically altered by Wilton Knight, and it turned out he was made to look like Wilton's evil son, Garth.

You can tell his evil by his facial hair.

I believe, although the mists of time may well be clouding my recollection, that Knight Rider was the origin of the 'pursuit mode' button.

I have one in our car which has been renamed the 'Eco button'. Turning it off places said vehicle into pursuit mode...

Me, next to my mates very own KITT... true story. I made it on to the BBC Radio One website front page thanks to this photo and got an honourary mention on the Colin and Edith show. My life is complete

That's lovely. Has he done out the interior too?

I've seen one driving round locally (East Lancs) occasionally; no idea who owns it.

No more ridiculous than this:

[img] [/img]

Or the TARDIS, a sentient police phone box, or Stingray, Fireball XL5, Supercar...
Or any amount of TV SF tech that's supposed to be at least moderately intelligent.
It's called 'suspension of dis-belief', something that's worth cultivating in order to enjoy such programmes.

No he can't be. Manimal got eaten by a shark. Speed of the puma is all well and good but they don't swim that quick.

Why are you pointing at the car. There's only one remarkable thing in that photo and I'm pretty sure most of us can work it out.

Here's the Bhangra version without the KR bass line

For the bass line search for Punjabi MC and Mundian Te Bach Ke but not an a tablet wot dunt do bass innit.

Cougar - the interior was pretty much standard although there is a guy in the US that will make a replica dashboard/console complete with KITT recorded sayings etc. my mate was in the process of getting a quote but suddenly got bored with it and sold it on. Good laugh driving round in it watching everyone's reactions. You sort of felt like a celebrity and a complete tool at the same time 😀

I can't believe that no one has mentioned the helicopter version of Knight Rider yet. Friends, the pinnacle of 80s television was surely...

I am very sorry to burst your bubble, but there can be no question about Airwolf's superiority to Blue Thunder.

i remember the excitement of KITT v Goliath head on run and the episode ending just before they hit.

Airwolf was great initially but went on far too long...

what is really telling i feel is the actors and characters in these shows were a lot more "real" and you could relate to a lot more, then things like BAYWATCH came along to start the trend of everyone being polished bronzed godesses/gods, and so US TV series you watch now contain no real people just models who talk. probably why they come and go like the wind now...

my rant over.

Didn't Airwolf get to the edge of space once?

I'd like to see chuffin Blue Thunder try that. Also Airwolf lived in a secret crater type thing rather than Piss-Ant-PD HQ or wherever it was.

Knight Rider was lame. Street Hawk was where the action was.

Now we're talking. I had a Street Hawk jumper, it was that awesome. That and Airwolf pissed on Knight Rider. Men's TV, for 7 year olds.

I remember feeling even at the age of 10 that Street Hawk seemed like a low quality knock-off of Airwolf and Knight Rider. I saw a bit of an episode on some backwater cable channel a few years ago. The bike looked terrible and the Knight Rider trick of speeding up the footage to make the car look faster really didn't work with a motorbike as soon as it went round a corner. 🙂

The last time I saw Airwolf also proved it hadn't aged well. I found the use of stock footage in the aerial combats particularly amusingly crap: Airwolf flies over a pine forest. Cut to a pair of jet fighters (recorded on obviously different film stock) flying over what looks like a Vietnamese jungle. Cut to a close-up of Airwolf's guns (which hadn't been deployed in its previous flying shot) firing. Cut to a jet exploding and ploughing into the jungle.
