Noticed some pain on the inside of my knee just below the joint around the bony area. Felt like I had knocked it but dont remember doing so and no real swelling. Rested for a week (from "jogging") and took Aspirin and iced regularly as well as doing the usual Google diagnosis.

So as well as having cat aids in my knee it occurred to me that it may be a meniscus tear. The pain has subsided a lot (over about 3 weeks) and I cant easily recreate any pain by doing twisting etc so I assumed it cant be too bad.

The funny thing is I have started running a few miles each day again and it feels much better, almost no sign of it although I am only running about 8 minute miles for about 30 mins. All feels ok but getting up in the morning and it is quite tender. Again not stopping me from moving around or walking etc so I suppose my question is, are these symptoms consistent with a tear or is it likely to be a slight meniscus injury which will subside with rest etc, or does it not sound meniscus related at all in your collective wisdom?

Cheers

Your symptoms mirror mine and despite an arthroscopic op last July on account of it, the pain persists. Like you, it's only bikng and, for me, snowboarding that seems to really aggravate it. I've got another consultation with the surgeon next month to see if there is anything that can be done moving forward. I suspect the answer may well be arthritis, get on with it. Interested to here what the collectives opinion is.

With my meniscus tear my knee would completely lock up and I would be in a lot of pain for sometimnes a few hours or sometimes a few days. I would only be able to walk by hobbling but riding a bike was always no problem. Then when the meniscus moved a little and the bone wasn't resting on the tear I would be back to normal. Sounds more like a strain but IANAD. MRI scan is the only way to confirm it or not TBH.

I had Chondromalacia patellae from running. Like being stabbed in the knee from the inside! Quite a common running injury cause by inflammation of the inner surface of the knee cap and easily treated. Googlefu it and see if it fits your symptoms.

Thanks all. @jobro I dont think its that as it is on the medial side well away from the cap or that area. I had a similar injury to that many years ago btw.

@surfer
Fair enough. I mentioned CP because the pain will often transmit elsewhere around the joint and is a very common runners knee problem. If the pain is very localised to the side and slightly below the joint it could be bursitis or medial collateral ligament. Impossible to diagnose off a forum and I guess you know it needs looking at.
