I've had this before when moved from a hard water area to soft water, over time the kettle rescaled itself totally.
Thing is I haven't moved. This morning have looked in the disgustingly scaled kettle (over due it's periodic clean) and it's almost shiny, big chunks of scale have fallen off. In the last few weeks I have thought my coffee has tasted different, wife has commented on her tea tasting odd.

It’s not the same kettle - your wife broke it and in a fit if guilt bought an identical replacement, scattering some of the broken bits of scale from the old kettle inside the new one in an attempt to cover her tracks
what she was doing when she broke it and why she feels the need to go to such lengths to cover it up you can only speculate.

Check with your local water company, in some areas the water can be blended from different sources. Some could be harder / softer than others. Could be there's been some sort of change.

Some water companies have changed the recipe for additives and sterilants during the pandemic.
Erin brockovich was about hexavalent Chrome which is bright green in solution. you'd certainly know about that if you had it in your kettle!
The reduction in air traffic means the ChemTrail Programme has been set back somewhat.
The kettle descaling is a by-product of the unfortunate reduction.

That might also mean scotroutes is right.
Has a major user of water in your area shut down in recent weeks e.g. steel mill, foundry etc?
You water company may be using multiple sources including river and bore holes. If the demand is down and the rivers up they may be taking more soft water from one source and less from another.
Where do you live (roughly)?

Warmer water (in reservoir) due to the warm weather, (also solubility of various "hard water salts" change with temp) need for more "chemicals" to kill e coli etc.
