Kudos. They certainly smell more scorched than pumpkins. Better IMO but that's probably nostalgia.

We used to use swedes, as pumpkins were expensive. Bloody hard work hollowing out a swede though, takes ages.

We always had swede/turnip lanterns. One of my friends did an impressive watermelon lantern today as the shops were out of pumpkins.

I never knew they were crossed with cabbage mind!
