It was a monster, with two tail fins. Bit of digging reveals...
Yep = they're monsters alright
Seen it a few times at airshows in the early 90's - awesome sight.
Cheers

That's the sighting run before they drop the MOAB 🙂
I was running around a airstrip when one came into land over me just about crapped my pants. Seriously impressive thing.
Can't imagine who in Manchester has taken delivery of something so large that it needs this beast to deliver it.
Leaves tomorrow at 9 apparently, might go to work the long way...
My latest order from bikediscount.ukr has obviously arrived! Woop!
The office I'm working in tomorrow is on the flightpath for Manchester 😀
Fingers crossed I'll get to see it!
I just heard that on its last visit, it dropped off some trams for the Metrolink.
I positioned my seat in a meeting so I had a perfect view of it about 300ft off the ground. Like WOW 😯
Someone's ordered a chainlink from CRC.
That planefinder site is pretty interesting.
My parents live under the flightpath from East Midlands, when it goes over (usualy very low as it weighs so much) it shakes their walls. That in itself would be impressive if they lived in a David Willson box made from papiermache and singe skin of bricks, but they live in a 300 year old house with 3ft thick solid walls!
Chain link from crc 😆
That is an awesome website!
Just tracking the plane flying overhead.

Yes, the more a plane weighs, the lower it flies - well known fact.
I feel like an air traffic controller watching the planes come in to land while looking at planefinder
More likely a cable end ferrule.... 🙄
I remember it coming into Manchester when it delivered the first set of trams, t'was very exciting as my mum lives under the flight path at MIA.
It seems quite a few flights have been diverted today @ MIA due to a burst tyre on landing.
What tyres for
😯The plane also has 32 wheels
Kind of wish you handn't shown that planefinder site, I'm now going to wait to see the Beluga fly over...
It's so addictive.
has it not come in yet?
I'm right under the flight path but I want to go home now, might hang 🙂
ah, from the comments on MEN is already in
Departing at 9.am tomorrow.
Hope the prevailing wind changes direction, then It'll go out near our house.
or maybe not!
I can't figure the shnizzle out!!!!
Went to see it! It really is huge:

Though some what suprisingly it wasn't the most spectular sight of the day. That went to this TCX A330, birdstrike and aborted takeoff!

Caught on video (NOT MINE, but well done to them for catching it),some colourful langauge so be careful!
We used to get an Antonov from Heavy Lift fly into RAF Lyneham from time to time, along with their Belfasts, carting supplies out to the Gulf, but that thing is chuffing ginormous! Makes a C5 Galaxy look a bit undernourished.
[edit] good bit of video of the engine blowout on that Airbus!
Preparing to take off too. Fack.
It's been one of those days at Manchester with the birdstrike, burst tyre and the Antonov 🙂

😆 just nearly spat all my tea over my I pad when I saw that.
Quality
Love the two birds on the barbed wire in the bird strike video.
One's saying to the other "You should never had dared him to do that."
two chinook have just come past the barn a few hundred metres away, a few hundred feet off the deck. Lovely sight and sound.
Was out of service for a long time as well. Built to carry the Soviet space shuttle and when the program was shut down the plane went out of service and had bits scavenged from it and generally started falling apart.
Took them a long while to get it airworthy again.
Cheers

I used to cycle round the perimeter of Farnborough to college, (this was a LONG time ago) and another 6 engine Antonov was there for the airshow. It spat it's engine rotor out one day, so another turned up with a spare. 2 of them parked side by side. They are very graceful once up in the air.
Cannot have been two - only one was ever built (two were originally commissioned but only one actually got made).
May have been its smaller brother the Antonov 124...
Cheers

If we have awards at end of year for best post then this is the winner
Nothing in the next 6 months will come close
Genuine laugh out loud moment, even the non biking long suffering with postman and crc boxes wife was chuckling
I had to marshall that bloody thing into one of the pans at Akrotiri once !! you want to stand infront of it ! 😯
Very Very big
probably dropping off next seasons wages for man u and city 😀

It is when you're only a couple of miles off the end of the runway

Absolutely, a classic smart-ass one-liner. Excellent work. 😆
Does anyone know what time it flew out?
I walked up to a local viewing point (sad I know), which overlooks the Cheshire plains and the airport, nothing that big flew out around 9 am.
Mmm - very large Russian plane arriving for unknown purposes. Fugitive on the loose possibly with the help of the Russians.
Very large and difficult to hide plane not seen departing.
All getting suspicious this...
Cheers

Flew out at ten, I believe, over Knutsford

You may retire into the STW Hall of Fame lounge.
10.00 am - That's good, 'cos I saw it through the binoculars. Wasn't too sure as it was small with me being far away. Sadly low cloud today, as it disappeared very quickly.
Well,
it appears that the MASSIVE plane never took off this morning, as they couldn't get the paperwork sorted in order to allow it back into Russia.
A bit odd seeing as it’s from Russia.
Not sure what you saw this morning then Bunnyhop?
Goes tomorrow around 10...
possibly....
Bunnyhop you might have seen the airbus thingy from bae in hawerdon,
I think they look similar with two tail planes.
I love seeing A380s hanging in the sky over London. Brilliant 🙂
Sussed it...
Edward Snowden is the cargo, complete with a full size house, in a full size street.
As it is airside he is technically 'nowhere'.
He failure to relocate to 'somewhere' is said to be due to the inability of the ParcelFarce operative to locate 'somewhere' on his sat nav.
Some, indeed all of the above may not bear any resemblance to truth.
Back in the real world - as a kid I walked though one of those things. Bonkers huge.
EDIT - sorry -actually. no. it was one of it's little brothers i walked though (at an airshow) even that was bonkers huge
As I said I was very far away and it was a whopper that I saw. Thanks MartynS, glad you made me realise I'm not going mad 🙂Not sure what you saw this morning then Bunnyhop?
Am so excited now and am going out again tomorrow, here's hoping the sky is a little less misty and without the low cloud.
ormancheep - will you be able to confirm this later tonight or early tomorrow? Thanks
Still parked up this evening when I was bussed off the Dublin flight. Got within 100 metres of it but the smart phone pictures came out rubbish.
Bunnyhop, keep an eye on the Manchester airport twitter feed. Should give you any updates on there.
Edit... And here: pistonheads
They showed it on the local BBC news last night.
OrmanCheep - Thanks.
More misty and cloudier than yesterday, so I think I'll be lucky to see anything from the distance I'm at.
Going to get there for 10.00 am.
Edit - Taking off at 12 Noon, runway 2, heading out towards Knutsford according to the MIA twitter feed.
Did anyone see it?
Flight was delayed by about an hour.
On a side note, I saw two Apache gunships yesterday low flying from the RAF base, went right over me whilst I rode home from work.
Its like an airshow round here today.
F15s al over the place. Apache helicopter. Merlin helicopter. And the daily Isle of Man/STaverton shuttle 🙂
