I've tried it a couple of times using the 'video' idiot button, cut'n'pasting the link you-tube gives under the "share" tab for any video, but it doesn't seem to work for me, just puts markups round the link text...

clearly I'm using the wrong text / syntax so educate me IT gimps...

make sure its the full youtube.com URL not the truncated one that you get from their share function (youtu.be) - so copy and paste the page address, ignore their share thingy.

EDIT Some URLs start with HTTPS and you sometimes have to delete the 's' if it won't link properly

Also make sure it's not the "https" link, it has to be "http". If you're logged into Google it'll often/always give you the first variety.

It seems to work fine for me. Which youtube video are you trying to link to?
I dont think you can use the youtu.be links...

Yep. Forget Youtubes "share" function. Just grab the URL from your browser and paste it between the Video tags.

If you post an attempt, we can tell you where you're going wrong.

The way I always do it is to select the email option, then just copy the URL given in the body of the email, and paste it into the video box on here, having deleted the http:// in the window first.
