Yes - I know I'm a bit behind! 😀

Not interested in Game of Thrones, never been one for that style of fantasy stuff.

Is Better Call Saul as good, or a padded out lightweight spin-off?

better call saul, is definitely not a light weight spin off, it's more of a slow burner though but very engaging.

Better Call Saul is great. Season 2 just finished.

As above though, slow burner but very well written/acted.

Saul is great.

I started watching Breaking Bad again today which I shouldn't as I'm trying to watch something called Game of Thrones.

The second best thing on TV is Silicon Valley = Fact.

Saul is kind of the antithesis of a lightweight padded out spin off... I reckon it's actually more cerebral than BB, it certainly has a different pace and depth. Love both.

Don't completely write off GoT. It's not really about dragons, it's about power, politics and corruption, with a fair bit of sex and violence thrown in for good measure. It's proper gritty, at times. For delivering those 'shit, I forgot to actually breath' scenes, it's every bit as good as BB.

Better Call Saul is genius - a true original in story telling that is more than a supplement to Breaking Bad. It expands the characters' world with nuance not normally associated with TV. Beautifully shot and performed with a nice touch in unpredictably too.

Bloodline is another terrific show too, as is Narcos. Bloodline is a slow burner but Narcos is pretty frenetic.

If you haven't seen Sopranos - that needs rectifying too.

And also as a more entertaining lightweight series not without its satire I really enjoyed Entourage.

Bloodline: does that actually get good? Watched 3-4 Episodes seemed slow as hell

You have to stick with it, and tolerate the mood and the heat. Mid way it starts to reward patience. But yes, it's pretty slow as the layers build up. I love the feel of it and the deep family troubles. It's more character than plot.

It's certainly not Line of Duty type pacing.

Watched Jessica Jones after hearing about it on here...

I think it is great... much darker than I was expecting...

Don't miss the wire though, that is something everyone should watch in their lifetime...

Oh and Battlestar Galactica, don't be fooled - science fiction is it's setting but it's so much more.

In fact, if you watch anything - watch Galactica.

Bloodline is superb and a real slow burner. The ending is very non conventional. The cast is superb with a special mention for Ben Mendelson and Kyle Chandler

Echoing most but

The Americans
Daredevil/Jessica Jones
Better Call Saul - still to finish s2
GoT - again not just the fantasy, politics, power, power corrupts, weakness of man etc.
House of Cards
Line of Duty
Watching Narco's but finding a slot when I'm wide awake and up for lots of reading is hard
Slowly going through Generation Kill - a compact band of brothers(??)
Homeland
Luther

Easy going/Easy on the mind
Blacklist/Blindspot/Quantico

Obviously hugely subjective, but the Wire is generally regarded as perhaps the best TV show ever..... and I'd agree. I went to see David Simon speak at the Opera House a few years ago, his speech is worth a watch:

Give GoT a go, I was very anti it as everyone was raving about how amazing it was. I saw an episode in a hotel in Finland by chance and thought it good enough to have a go. It is excellent IMO, strangely I didn't like Breaking Bad, watched the first series and walked away.

my recommendations would be
The Bridge
Narcos
The Wire

I've always been impressed with the manga/anime series that are available on Netflix. Pick a series and give it a try.
Buffy the vampire slayer is also a good watch if you missed it first time around.

The Walking Dead has a similar cliffhanger-every-episode style and is quite a brain-free experience...in more ways than one, chortle chortle.

another vote for Penny Dreadful.

also;

Person of Interest
Mr Robot
Black Sails

Not a fan of American Horror story. it's morality is a bit out of whack
