... on DVD.

maybe it has been covered before ...

why can't UK telly make such good innovative shows as this, The Wire, Sopranos, 6 Feet Under, Twin Peaks etc etc etc.

We simply don't have the budgets for these sort of dramas
We do other things very well though & sell plenty of it across the Atlantic

as far as I'm concerned - HBO can continue to make good drama & sell it to us & we will continue to sell the US our good stuff

EDIT - another HBO drama, Boardwalk Empire is about to hit the UK screens
Well worth watching

Unless they're about posh people in old houses of course, so that we know we can sell them all around the world.

The This Is England TV series was as good as anything American though. That was a different kind of period drama I suppose.

Shameless, Skins and Being Human have just been aired on US tv. They have to be re-made with Americans in though!

Expect Misfits to be next - now that is good telly

Skins is a pile of crap, though. I watched the first episode and used the rest of the disks as bird-scarers.

First series was good, it went a bit downhill after that

Wasn't my cup of tea ...........but interestingly, Stephen Graham from This is England plays Al Capone in Boardwalk Empire

Boardwalk Empire is good. Also been watching Eastbound and Down recently which is funny. Not as consistently good as some, but has its moments.

As for British programmes, I thought that Sherlock was actually pretty good. While the resources usually aren't in place to produce epics on the scale of The Wire etc. there is some good stuff around. Life on Mars for example. And although I'm not a massive fan, Doctor Who is pretty good value.

The thing with a lot of British TV is that it ends up looking exactly like Doctor Who, and hence a bit cheap and wobbly.

Currently appearing in the remake of V, but with short hair ...

Mad men is very addictive, just got a copy of season 3 but haven't had time to start it yet.

For an excellent UK TV mini series check out Luther. Only 6 episodes but well worth watching.

Idris Elba aka Stringer Bell from the wire is the lead.

madmen doesn't grip me like sopranos did (due to the subject matter not being as juicy) but its bloody good. cained the first series over the last 2 weeks and we're about to hit series 2.
