Just as I was really beginning to lose all hope, no income other than JSA at the mo (and no sniffs of paid work), on the overdraft limit, rent due tomorrow which I was only just about going to scrape together part cash and part agreed labour helping to fix the garden for a couple of days and...

Just had a letter through from the HMRC. Now I've criticised the hell out of them in the past for being useless and slow (they are!), but at least this time they're giving me a £1k tax rebate!!! Woohoo!

Most of it from 2009 mind, and no sniff of any tax back from 2011/12 tax year (I reckon I'm owed a few hundred quid for that tax year too), but £1k is £1k!!! 🙂

Now use £500 of that money to start a legitimate business.

You can starve for a few days no problem or pay off all your debts etc but use some of the money to start something.

Age? Thought about the military? Foreign Legion? I could ask my summer job employers if they need another kitchen porter, food and board included.

Start looking on gumtree. Be prepared to move.

Hope things go well for you matey. No one should worry as to whether they will have a roof over their heads tomorrow, having a place to live is a human right.

31, military no way (it would kill me, or I'd kill someone), Foreign Legion likewise... I'm not really trying to change my life any more at the moment (sort of done that in the last 12-24 months quite drastically enough), more just scratch a living so I can afford to eat, pay my bills, and carry on with the part time uni course I've just finished the first year of.

I make light of the situation slightly, as there's one or two people at least who would make sure I've always got a roof over my head, and I get on with my current landlord very well as he's been a friend for a couple of years and he's understanding to a point, but I don't want to get to a situation where I'm ever felt to be taking the piss so to speak. Which I felt it was about to get to, without any way back to sort it out. This tax rebate has come just at the right time, will buy me a couple of months sorting a decent job I can do for now, then work on fitting it round my studies come September hopefully.

Good luck Mboy, if you are studying you should really try getting in the good books with a head chef or hotel manager. They can be very very accommodating if they like you and you get a LOT of work during the summer holidays which gives you time to save up for the next semester.

My advice, walk into hotels, cafes, pubs etc... Ask them if they need a KP or waiting. For some reason this works better than handing a CV in, in the catering industry. Bullshit, bullshit and bullshit. Present yourself well, keep eye contact when you handshake...make sure the latter is firm. I managed to get a job as a baker once doing this, having no previous experience. I guess because I can be an arrogant prick I've always felt completely in control of my life, confident in my ability to control the bubble around my life/manipulate my environment so to speak.

I have one rule in my life though, I will join the Foreign Legion before I ever end up working in Tesco's like I did during my gap year or if I end up on the doll. Luckily the hotel I worked during my summer hols when studying likes me so much I don't reckon it will ever get to that.

Keep us posted on how things go! If you do find yourself up shit creek post on here and I'll see if I can help.

Surely you're entitled to housing benefit if you're on the rock 'n' roll?

Seemingly not... Not sure why, but 3rd time I've been on the rock'n'roll, and 3rd time I've received a letter saying "sorry, but we have decided you aren't eligible for housing benefit"... 😕

Don't have a clue why, gonna go ask at citizens advice probably tomorrow actually, see if they have any answers...

Maybe I should just become a single parent, or change my ethnicity!!! 😉

Thought about the military

Join the army now? Comeback missing your testicles, one leg and part of one arm taken away to live the next 40 or so years with a restricted mobility? 😯
