There are times when you feel like an endangered species. The other day I had to take evasive action to avoid a tool driving on the wrong side of the road in order to overtake a cyclist properly signalling and positioned in the centre of tne road to make a right turn; and now I read this. http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/news/local/driver-punched-cyclist-in-gosport-road-rage-attack-1-5697025 Some of the comments make me lose the will to live, or at least shake my head...

I hate to say it but it sounds as though the 2 cyclists confronting the one driver was a bad move and I can understand why the driver would feel threatened, especially with one lifting their bike up. If he's that scared why didn't he jump on the bike and ride off?

I wouldn't be surprised if there is more to the story than is being said.

At least the driver was found guilty for the assault, although I think the cyclist pursuing and "confronting" the driver was the wrong thing to do (as it almost always is).

Used to commute into Gosport... was erm... fun. I once had a van driver slow down and give me the "wanna fight" stare cos I'd "looked at" his van 😆

Even the "pro-cycling" comments on that article appear to have been written by morons. Face, meet desk:

well sorry but road tax was abolished back in 1937, and currently it is called VED (Vehicle Excise Duty)..

So..... it was abolished, but still exists (under another name)? Yep, that's an argument well made, that is.

If I was on my bike and felt like someone was driving aggressively towards me, I'd be angry. Especially if I was with a loved one (I don't have a 17yr old son, but I'm particularly protective of my wife).

But if I chose to follow him to 'confront' him...I'd probably accept that it may escalate into a fight which I may or may not lose.

I only know one guy who was assaulted on his bike* Someone drove into him then beat him up. When you ask him why, he's very vague about the details to what provoked this attack

However, he is the most sanctimonious, arrogant, self-righteous, and confrontational bloke I've ever met in my life - and I've met a good few people off here! 😉

So when he tells this preliminary sketchy-on-the-details story, all of us thought the same thing. I don't know what he said or did, but I bet he bloody asked for it!

* mid-life crisis carbon race missile, naturally
