It's pissing down with rain & we have a week in March free.

So we thought, Jordon can't be too hot then.

So in traditional STW way I am kicking off my research.

Will a week do it justice & is independent travel a realistic option.

NB: we will be bike free !

I would say a week is pushing it depending on what you enjoy. I would say ten days does it justice otherwise you have to choose between dropping something, you basically have:
Capital - Amman
Historic - Petra and/ or Jerash
Nature - Wadi Rum and/ or red sea diving or dead sea/ Mount Nebo

Each probably is a couple of days with travel between next destination, so to fit them all in will take more than a week, if you only have a week I would drop Amman. It is amazing place and I loved the variety of stuff packed in to a small country.

You can do Amman to Petra and back again in a day if you leave before sunrise and accept that you’ll be leaving after sunset. Get a hotel at Petra if you can.

I’ve done it a couple of times, and combined it with a visit to the Dead Sea too. I wouldn’t say you’re missing anything if you skipped the Dead Sea; apart from the floatiness it just feels like you’re walking on a million fresh turds.

If you are prepared to pay for a driver, I’d recommend it. Not difficult to drive in Jordan but the speed bumps are huge and unmarked.

We did a week in Jordan in January on an organised trip and saw pretty much everything you'd want to see, but it was a week of 7am starts and we spent a lot of time sitting on a coach between places. I think you'd do well to see as much as we did travelling independently.

Great country though. Really enjoyed it.

Fwiw, this is the tour we did

Cheers all,

IHN, that actually looks like a reasonable deal.

A week does sound to me a bit short. I definitely prefer a more relaxed approach so we might postpone for a year.

After 3 weeks in Uzbekistan we are supposed to be doing budget this year!

Yeah, we did it for £500 in the first week of Jan, which is just bonkers.

Did it on an organised bike tour a few years ago with Explore - think it was 8 days. Great way to see, hear and smell the country, though it was unbearably hot on a couple of days especially as there was little tree cover. Petra was awesome and would love to go back. There were a couple of villages where the locals threw a few things at us and another where the Police escorted us through a larger village but apart from that people were very friendly.
