Isn't it dull and slightly depressing.
Firstly, there's the trawling through the jobsites, looking at loads of jobs that are not quite what you really want.
Then there's dealing with the recruitment agents, the vast majority of whom are basically useless (as are, it would seem, the vast majority of any occupation ending with the word 'agent').
Then there's the decisions - do I accept less money and live where I want to, or earn more money but potentially move or have a mental commute?
And after all that, you don't even know if you're going to like it until you start, by which time it's pretty much too late.
Anyhoo, that's my little vent. Back to the search...
Oh, and if anyone's looking to employ a BA in the Manchester area, my mail address is in my profile 🙂
Why not start your own company instead?

I have, I'm freelance/contract. New area though, so few direct contacts anywhere.
Chin up mate - it only really starts to grate after the first year. 🙁
😯
been 5 and 1/2 months for me
phone interview for a job i dont want tomorrow (25% pay cut and duller work than previous) but really ought to take, if they offer it.
yes its depressing, still strting volunteer work at local archaeological dig next week so thats nice
edit: just watched some smug minister on the news tell me how the job market is actually doing very well at the moment %?$&!

If you are not already look at signing on to the national enterprise allowance (through the job centre) I was on it for a while and it helped me as I built up some business.

FWIW I took a job in an industry I had absolutely no interest in or knowledge of, purely because I needed a job. 3 years later I've virtually doubled my salary and enjoyed each of 3 successive jobs within the organisation more and more, and indeed more than the previous industry/role I had an active interest in!
Well, that was a new experience - an actual rude recruitment monkey. Normally they want to be your best friend, this one was a sullen tosspot; excuse me for wasting your time by being a potential candidate wanting to discuss a job vacancy you've advertised, I'll let you get on with whatever your job is. Oh, hold on, that is your funking job!
No, unfortunately not.
Saying that, what's his area of expertise (apart from 'asian girls')? What kind of recruitment does he do, so you know?
just go 'self employed' as a hand wringer-- you get all housing benefit, tax credits, etc --just declare that you do 30 hrs a weeek--no need for any 'profit'-- you are then part of the economic miracle that has seen over 400,000 self employed start ups this last year---hence the no increase in productivity-- all job centres will help/advise to get you off one figure( unemployed) onto the other (employed)--or face the workfare/workhouse option !
Job Hunting-- make sure your'e well armed, some of them jobs can be well pesky-- i have managed to bag three today, maybe try later when its dark....

err-- its called humour-- darkish-- what you need to survive the torment of unemployment-- since i'm blacklisted its much harder to get any meaningful employ-- but you carry on with your earnestness....
Know anything about the petroleum retail market? 😀
What you blacklisted for rudeboy? Are you Arthur Scargill?
And IHN I have no idea what Hora actually does other than buy frames and forks 😉
StuF - cheers, but not my bag (unfortunately)
Scaled - I regularly buy both petroleum and diesel from retail outlets (once, indeed, at the same time 😳 ), and have experience of kiosk and pay-at-pump transactions. I'm also familiar with the ancilliary sales of chocolate bars, expensive sandwiches and little tins of sweets in tartan tins. Can I have a job?
binners-- was blacklisted back in the eighties for union/political activism-- been an interesting time-- only get work via agencies, when there is plenty and they not fussed -- have worked in local authorities/housing associations-- but big firms/large contracts are a no no -- same for many thousands of us-- its all part of this wonderful democracy that we inhabit..
oh, and scargill is too much of a stalinist for me...
I've emailed you, against my better judgement 😀
im not sure i could handle a rejection from maccy Ds
I took it as a compliment 🙂
been on a 2 day A4E compulsory getting a job course today
was interesting seeing how diverse the fellow jobseekers were; cab driver with a speeding ban, security guard, IT sales, payroll manager, bookmaker, security guard, Iraqi wedding DJ ?!? one guy produced his spreadsheet of 900 applications hed sent off in 18months!
to be fair the course was carried out by a local charity via A4E (who now take a cut where as before the charity got more funding direct from the government!) and the guy running it confirmed what we all knew that the jobcentre was about form filling meeting ministerial targets and nothing to do with helping peoples careers.
on the plus side had a successful phone interview and invited for a 2nd interview so fingers crossed
@rudebouy smilies help, soz 😀
i am about to be railroaded on to the 'workfare' programme-- where the transfer of money to tne private sector from the public purse is disguised as 'helping the unemployed'--
you are signed up for 2 years--a day or so a week is spent in an office, using computers, doing cvs' and general pressure to take any kind of employ-- they are paid a 'seed' fee initially, then a bonus if any work is found--if you are still in work after 6 months a much larger fee is paid, and if youare in work after one year another fee is paid-- irrespective of how you find work, they get the 'pay off'--this is a real scandal-- there is no attempt to match suitable people to suitable employ, no regard for health , or much apart from profiteering--just gotta love the bulls hit that ministers spout ...
I do feel for you as job searching can be challenging.
Bear in mind a Recruitment consultant's job is to find a candidate for their client (who pays for the service) not to find a job for you (who doesn't pay). If you are unsuitable for the job then you are wasting their time. Sorry if that's harsh.
hmanchester-- i think you may misunderstand the workfare scheme--its a net that gets all fish-- then they receive payment even if they are not useful-- we are tllking about all those 'jobs' that are not really, but are part of the propaganda/idealogical battle engaged by the govt-- as i said earlier, the reason for more 'job's being created yet no increase in production--is just smoke and mirrors--the cost to everyone must be large for this obfuscation .
OP FWIW only use the Job sites as a search engine to find out who the main Employer is and then go direct to them and not go through the agencies.
I was made redundant 6 weeks ago and today have a job offer which I have accepted, all of the interviews (6) I went for were not due to agencies.
A lot of agencies will also advertise out of date or made up jobs in the activity known as CV farming. It causes massive disappointment as the dream job you initially applied for and was told by the agency your perfect for may not even exist.
Good luck and chin up!
Blacklisted by whom exactly Rudebwoy?
And where can I download this secret list of socialist agitators?
So why ain't Ernesto blacklisted? Is his Marxist nonsense just an online persona, is he really just a Tory in disguise?

and you are .....attempting to troll......?

Ah, consultant eh? I'm guessing you are one?
But, if they find a job for me, they get paid by that client. As an agent, it swings both ways for them. Estate agents ostensibly work for the sellers, but the good ones* are very interested in what buyers are looking for and matching the two sides together.
*there aren't many good ones
