It lets you run unsigned code on your iPhone such as Pro Switcher, SBSettings etc.

A by-product of this is you can also install cracked apps that have had the protection removed.

It can be done easily.

HTH.

In the past one of the main reasons for jail breaking an iphone was so it was unlocked and you could use it on other networks.

Now O2 are unlocking phones on request via a form on their website. I'm just going through the process so I can use mine with sim cards in other countries.

I don't want to jailbreak mine because it will void the warrentee

Jailbreak is reversible though.

MrsGrahamS' iphone started behaving very weirdly a few months after it was jailbroken.

Freezes up completely at times. Even the "Slide to Unlock" animation stops.
I undid the jailbreak and did a full restore on the phone. Better for a bit then back to the same.

The other week I called her phone to find it in the house. I can hear it ringing on my phone but no sound from it, so I hang up. About five seconds her phone finally wakes up and starts ringing. ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

We took it back to O2 at the weekend and it's back with Apple now.

If the phone is broke you'll have a problem doing that.

blackrain will allow you to install cydia which has all sorts of 'un-official' apps (including loads to add functionality, although you could just get all that by getting and android phone ๐Ÿ˜‰
