can i download and use mp3/4s on players that are non apple? or is it apple products only?

Bit of a weird question, but if i have understood you correctly:
Itunes only works when syncing to ipods/iphones, reason being other MP3 players will utilise drag and drop/wmp to put files on them.

Yes, you can.
Mp3 is a type of file format used by most mp3 players and as Jamie says above you can normally just drag-n-drop mp3 files on to you player.

Are you asking if you can purchase tracks from the iTunes store and then play them on non-apple players?
