Kimbers Dr Octagon is one of the best Albums ever. Automator and Kool keIth together is just perfect. Abetter tomorrow is pretty amazing as well!
These two tracks are from hip hop albums but could easily sway the narrow mindedness of those that recon all hip hop is yo yo m**f*^$* yo kind of stuff.
[url=
this you mean? NOT SAFE FOR WORK

Have we had Crooklyn Dodgers part II yet?

Craig Mack - Flava in ya Ear
this is from around 1993.some people have said this is the best hip hop track of all time.the scratch along with the samples are all put together so well.. so well considering he made it in something like a broom cupboard. you have to listen to it all the way through to judge it though.still got it on 12" although i bought it around 94 when it was re issued.best 4 quid spent ever.

Starr - Work
Spent about 10 years trying to find a Gang Starr track I heard in a car once. Never found it 🙁 Don't you just hate the ones that get away...
@ Kimbers
Good work up until your last. I.E apart from Handsomeboy they are none of them 90's! Although if it was a straight favourite Hip Hop thread...i'm with you all the way, Abs is my man. His album with Fase is Killer!
10 points if you know this one
15 if you can name the UK rapper?
Yep, love that tune, it's the B-Side of "Beyond this World". Rapper is Monie Love I think?
Absolutely one of my favourite eras of music, so much good stuff came out then! A couple that haven't been mentioned yet (Not safe for work unless you've got your headphones on)
[url=
and AG (Showbiz also did the beat for "Sound of da Police" by KRS ONE)
Diamond D - the song that Mr Scruff sampled for the line "and I'm out like a trout..." 😆
15 big ass points to Mr Agreeable 8)
Yes a great era, had a real nostalgia fest last night listening to all this. Youtube is frightening!
Aw damn, why'd all this have to kick off after I left STW last night? And some of us liked indie and hip-hop (and everything else!) 😀
Anyway - five for this morning:
[url=
Come Clean "You wanna front what?"
[url=
What if? Rawkus burned bright for a while...
GZA 4th Chamber Terrifyingly good.

On the subject of Show and AG -
Return of Crooklyn Dodgers -
Scenario remix - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7syWx2U8uk
BTW for some good 90s style hip-hop - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PPZ2-FVcM3M
The albums is pretty good too - very premier-esque production
Jeru - Can't stop the Prophet (Pete Rock remix) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=riUUUYHsdS8
Damn I used to love hip-hop.
Rawkus burned bright for a while...
Damn straight!
- featuring the line "You smoke dirty weed ignoring the medicinal herbals, so we in your ass like you was Richard Gere and we was gerbils" 😆
- Mos Def and Aretha Franklin
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLlo7lTewkw - More Co Flow than Co Flow
This was my favourite Reflection Eternal tune, on the other side -
Rawkus Records - the only good thing James Murdoch ever did...
2000 Seasons, great stuff. For some reason, this line always really gets to me...
Tilt your head back, and look at the stars
Shining over someplace very far, from where you standing
As much as we're getting nostalgic, what new hip hop do people rate?
Apart from Edan
and some MF Doom stuff
There isn't an awful lot doing it for me. 😐
Pete rock and CL smooth, Eric B and Rakim, BDK, J5, Dilated peoples
Now we're ****in talkin.
Anyone mentioned the roots?
There isn't an awful lot doing it for me.
These days, being old and all, I just get slowly drunk to the sound of [url=
Welch.
But yes, Gawd bless MF Doom, in all his [url=
Can't get on youtube here, so can't see if anyone's linked The Goats without saying.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAyvj5g0aNg
Tricks of the Shade is an awesome album.
Anyone mentioned the roots?
[url=
a band...
My fave Pete Rock [url=
(aside from T.R.O.Y.).
Mr A
MF Doom I quite like but I don't find it too exciting really.
I like the Marco Polo track I posted before with Masta Ace, and some of the other tunes on the album are good too, but it's very derivative of Premier production.
Really liking Prefuse 73 at the mo, although it's pretty weird and mostly instrumental.
Cool videos too -
The Roots can even play instruments too 😉
Yeah Prefuse 73 is a little.....challenging...but worthi t!
Ach, the good thing about liking old hip hop is it's a bottomless pit! If you listen to CDs like "Hear No Evil" by DJ Ivory there seems to have been loads of good stuff that slipped through the cracks.
Pete Rock fans should check out the INI album if you haven't already. Only got a proper release a couple of years ago and it's almost as good as his classic stuff.
House of pain - Jump Around was good for its time.
Young MC - Know how, How many tracks has the riff in this been used in..
LISTEN TO THIS.
some good tunes up here! Pharcyde - Passing me By was one I wanted to post but got beaten to it, one of my favourite beats of all time!
Nas - Halftime
Gravediggaz - Constant Elevation
grimey beats!
Mobb Deep - Shook Ones http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cP0wsET8__Y
bit newer but still good, A-Skills & Krafty Kuts - Tricka Technology http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HikdySt8FUo
RUN DMC - It's Tricky.
Bit older than 90's
GRANDMASTER FLASH - The message.
THE SUGAR HILL GANG - Rappers Delight. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-302Jp0bVQ&feature=related
Curtis Blow - The Breaks. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFGDNGkev7M
That whole Nas album is fantastic
[url=
Dirty - Brooklyn Zoo
[url=
to Da Hoppa
And if we are gonna start having non-90s hip-hop then how about this Sugar Hill - Jump On It (Apache)
ODB is the very definition of patchy, but "Shimmy Shimmy Ya" is awesome! Couldn't get into Nas, all that "I shot my way out my mom" nonsense. I don't mind music with no socially redeeming value whatsoever but it has to be a bit more upbeat than that.
Love The Beatnuts' first album, the production is amazing and the thugged-out lyrics make me laugh a lot.
