... pheasants.

Now that our gentried overlords are unable to congregate in the country to take a pop at them over a bottle or three of single malt they're everywhere.

Was quite a surreal ride today with no cars and a million pheasants.

Actually, what will happen to them (the pheasants, not Rees-Mogg and his chums)?

Seeing as the season ended on the first of February, I'd say little to nothing has changed!

Probably slightly fewer lost as roadkill due to the reduced traffic.

The bloody things are a nuisance at the best of times where I live, been nearly took out several times by the loony things.

Though I do enjoy watching the one waltz down the street in the mornings for his daily walk in the village at the moment.

also fewer stolen mopeds

There has been quite a few stolen motorbikes and cars reported on FB over the last couple of weeks. How are they getting away with it - surely very few people should be out in the middle of the night, and those that are should be fairly obvious in delivery vans etc.

Hmm. Maybe I'm just noticing them because there are fewer cars scaring them off the roads.

Point of order for those tempted to swallow the "gentrified overlords" bllshine. There are an estimated 8-10000 shooting syndicates in the UK. Of those by far the greatest proportion will be DIY syndicates run by working folk. The large commercial shoots so villified by the deliberate misinformation of the likes of LACS et al are far fewer in number.

Game shooting is by no means the preserve of the wealthy.

The majority of shoots I was involved in were mostly just the local farmers (Welsh borders way).

But hey it wouldn’t be an STW thread without some political bollocks of kind or another..

None native species ruining our snake population. The sooner mass breeding/farming of pheasants is banned the better. Sadly with Tories in that, plus other forms of hunting, are not going to go away

Interested to know how? I'm sure Pheasants aren't a natural predator of Adders. 😁 Habitat conflict?

I saw an albino pheasant once, like this.

True story.

Sorry, that's more likely to be a leucistic pheasant. Albinos have pink eyes.

Fair few melanistic mutants around here this season. Bagged one on a family shoot at a friend's place.

Taste the same as the 'normal' ones.

The clue is in the name. Distracted by pheasants, adders find it even harder to multiply than normal.

I did hear a coupe of distant pops when I was owthe other day...

But yeah there are more strutting about and with the minimal rural road traffic I don't think so many will be ending up under the wheels of an enthusiastically driven fiesta...

I would have assumed a "shooting syndicate" was just a fancy term for having a whip round to pay for a hitman...

I know a few people who ride with hunts, and you can argue the same. Well, they might have been wealthy before they bought a horse....

That’s just a white pheasant you can tell as the cock is smaller.
