just had virgin round replacing my ancient broadband modem as it went plop.

i have connected to my new spangly router thing, it connects fine etc and asked for a pin/password which i put in as on the rear label, all is fine.

how though do i change the ID of network and pin/password if i want to?

Usually, you'll need to connect to the router via a wired connection (a LAN cable), once connected type in it's IP address (should be on the label) into your browser and you get the login prompt. Enter the details and you'll get to the routers interface, the option will be in there some-where.

EDIT: Re-reading, you seemingly have done all this... the option should be in there some-where. What brand/make router is it?

Go to 192.162.1.1 in the address bar of internet explored and this will take you to the admin functions of your router.

You may need to enter a password buy it'll be something obvious like virgin or admin. Check in the bumff that came with it.

its an all in one set up modem/router together. it was so simple that laptop discovered it i clicked on it, wanted pin number which is on label and away it went.

what i wanted to change is the wireless network name and pin number or is the pin number strictly just what is on the label on the back?

Netgear by the way.

what McHamish & I said are basically the same thing, try it..

Plug in via a cable, this cannot be done via WiFi.
Open a browser window (IE, Opera, safari, etc)
Type in the IP address of the unit (Might be 192.162.1.1 as per McH, or 192.162.0.1.. but it's usually printed on the back of the router)
A login Prompt should appear.. login details on the back of the router (eg: Admin/Password)
Enter the interface and find the section you need...

It won't be 192.162.1.1, that's a public address although I suspect it was a typo.

Try 192.168.1.1, 192.168.0.1 or if not look on the router itself.
You can also find the right address to connect to by opening up a command window and typing ipconfig. The default gateway is the address you want.
