Bottle of red wine and a nice cheese board tonight, still got a day in work tomorrow (WFH), feels like a Thursday though, anyone else in serious wind down mode?

A couple of little bits of web work to do over the next 10 days other than that I’m off.

I'm in a wind down. The company I work for now gives you Boxing Day as well as Christmas Eve which is unusual here in the US. So I'm adding a bit of vacation time in and getting a decent time off. I'm trying to get some things tied up, but generally not working as hard as I could.

Closed my last contract Monday, another got deferred to ‘21 today leaving me at 95.6% grrr. Found out my very capable director and part mentor is leaving after Christmas, leaving me with an incapable middle manager who’s arrogant enough to think he can step up. Without even a “thanks and enjoy Christmas” he’s banged out his orders for a 2021 Sales plan needed before 1st Jan. He can go **** himself and yes I’m on the Port.

This has been the hardest year ever with work, wife redundant, challenges with kids at school not at school, minor ops for me, and I’m mentally exhausted, I can barely turn a pedal. And yet there’s people far worse off we should be thinking about.

I need a 4 day break, so desperately.

Kryton, feel your pain, last year was our pants year, me out of work, worries over where our daughter would be studying in 2020 (she's a high level dance student so competition for upper school places is tough), all came right this year for us but this particularly resonates:

Found out my very capable director and part mentor is leaving after Christmas,

For this first time in a long time I've found myself working for a capable and human Ops Director, would be gutted if he moved on. Previous management saw me leave an employer in an ambulance due to stress and physical collapse.

Enjoy the port.

I keep thinking it’s Wednesday...
Fortunately, it turns out I still had seven days holiday left, so I asked for yesterday and today off, and was given tomorrow as well, so the whole week. Which has turned out to be fortunate because the two days I expected for the delivery of kit and installation of my central heating system has turned into three. House is a mess, piles of old stuff turned out of the airing cupboard where the boiler’s going, will be going into the recycling bins, but it’s going to be great having a nice warm house, with lower bills in future.
Ill wind, etc...
But, all things considered, I’m pretty lucky at the moment, many people, including on here, have things so very much worse, and I can only wish everyone the best for the new year, hopefully things will get better.

Just tonight's and tomorrow's (part) night shift and then I'll done until the 4th January.

This will be our first Christmas not visiting relatives, looking forward to having a couple of drinks and watching the kids unwrap their presents.

Cheers, sorry to whinge but I think the last of the real work has just opened the emotional floodgates after I’ve tried for a long while to stand my ground. I don’t think I’ve ever been so mentally tired ever.

Anyway, a day and a half and it’s a blur of food and booze and time with the kids with some crass Christmas telly - much to be grateful for.

Cant be Thursday soon enough.

Get back home on the 30th but I'm as good as in wind down mode as my heads just not in it, being nightshift isn't helping as i always struggle to turn back round to days.

Oh and the outlaws just got a puppy! im allergic to most furry creatures but id liked to have been there to see the wee thing.

Finished last Thursday until January 4. Bloody teachers eh?

Being a grizzled veteran, I very rarely moan about workload, but this last term has genuinely been one of the toughest of my 22 year career. Serves me right I guess for 'choosing' to be Head of Year 11 this year...

Finished work at 2am just about to head back to my desk for 10am and will likely be there until midnight with an hour's break for lunch and dinner.

Combination of (changed) year end, large project and a lot of small urgent bits of work and two staff down does not a relaxing run in to Christmas make.

It's one of those bizarre things about this year. A lot of people I know who aren't on furlough or made redundant (us included) have been working 50% more hours due to a mix of Covid planning, Brexit, staff absences, WFH inefficiency (let's face it it's not good for everything for everyone but it's great for some stuff) school and nursery disruption etc. But people aren't recruiting to support and/or those industries that are continuing are more specialist and can't find people to hire. Not saying those working have it worse more just an observation of the phenomenon.
