I've just started to get a Medialooks logo/watermark appear in any .mov videos I play in Windows Media Player, after a search on the net this seems to be something to do with apple quicktime which you have to have installed to view videos on WMP, somewhere said this was something you had to download, I've not downloaded anything or updated quicktime so where did this come from? I've searched my pc for medialooks and it finds nothing, can't find any info on how to get rid of this and can't find a way of contacting apple to ask what the hell is going on. It's very annoying to have a logo/watermark over your own videos! Thanks if anyone knows how to get rid of this.

Look to see if a Medialooks plug-in appears in 'Add/Remove Programs' / 'Uninstall a Program' (XP / W7) in Control Panel.

Hi, yeah tried that, nothing there ...?

I might try a system restore as it's really irritating, it only started doing this today, I tried to do a screen shot of it but no luck, WMP or the video format just won't capture a screen shot, the video keeps playing behind the screen grab in photoshop or comes up blank in other imaging software. Anyway, basically it looks like this

I've copied this from another post on another forum which didn't really help but you can see the logo.

Only comes up with .mov videos, that's videos taken with my Contour camera, if I change the file extension to .mp4 it's fine but that's a lot of videos to change.

Annoying 👿

Are you sure about that? It seems very unlikely. In fact I'm almost certain I don't have Quicktime installed on this laptop and I watch stuff all the time on WMP. Try uninstalling Quicktime and see what happens maybe?

Edit; just checked, definitely no QuickTime here...

Try this instead - proper open source media player that plays everything.

Medialooks doesn't appear to be malicious but could be. Have a look in Control panel, make sure your AV is up to date (MSE is best currently)

You wont be able to remove WMP these days I think. If VLC works just change your defaults to that.

I tried uninstalling quicktime, then my .mov files wouldn't play, other video formats like mp4 and avi play fine, it's just the .mov files that seem to require quicktime, so I had to install it again.

Problem is that with the Contour cam you can only change the settings via storyteller which insists you have quicktime otherwise it won't even start up.

News - the sytem restore has got rid of the medialooks logo/watermark but now I can't start storyteller, although my .mov files play ok now, mmm?

You will probably need to reinstall QT - make sure you get it direct from the apple site.

You may need to uninstall storeyteller the reinstall it to make it all work.

Yep, all ok now, got rid of it, but I did have to uninstall, system restore and reinstall quicktime. The only thing that I can think of that may have happened was that storyteller was updated 2 days ago which may have installed something into the quicktime??
