I was hoping to set up a simple NAS system using a Belkin N600 DB router but the installed Twonky server can only index 5000 media files which is nowhere near enough for all my music and photos.
I couldn't find any mention of this limit before buying and can't find any mention of limits whilst looking for alternatives but don't want to buy the wrong one again. Does anyone have any suggestions / recommendations without resorting to a full NAS system.

I use twonky and have 5000plus, I think the limit is around 8000 ?
ASUS RT-N56U is a wireless gigabit router that has usb slots for hdd and also upnp server. The server side isnt great if im honest.
But interestingly enough theres some russian firmware out for it which enables you to load various media servers onto it, you can also ssh and supports nfs.
if you want something plug and play or official firmware only this probably isnt for you.
they may do other newer versions or cable versions of this box

dedicated nas will be better, i'm using a hp micro server myself with ubuntu server and serviio, great setup.
Just upgraded my router to a TL-WR1043ND which appears to have uPnP server for a USB drive.
Not tried it though as I have Twonky running on my Lacie NAS with over 15,000 files indexed. Do you have access to the Twonky server admin to have a fiddle about and check the settings?
