So far it's all been too bland for radio 2. Whatever happened to the Killers, I love a bit of Mr Brightside but that was awful.

I saw the lineup and turned over. They really do specialise in the bland these days.

Not 1 new gem though, usually there is somethjing that makes you listen, even if you'd never buy it...but it was all terrible.

Whatever happened to the Killers?

Brandon Flowers turned in to Chris De Burgh 🙂

Seems that way...all the rest were so bad too. Those 2 boys on the piano and guitar...jeez!

I too still lament the killers

I really don't know what happened after such a brilliant debut album

I gave them the benefit of the doubt for the dodgy second album, but there are no excuses now Mr Flowers

Hang on...
Is Jools Holland now so bad that people who like The Killers <spit> can bemoan the state of modern music?

Absolutely bloody awful! Boy George was spectacularly terrible! And Who the hell was the girl mumbling while playing the piano?

I don't know exactly when the killers turned to **** but it was somewhere between their T in the Park set in 2007, and their Reading set in 2008

Let me rephrase that more accurately:

Jools Holland is for people that can't be bothered.

The Killers - it's called "change" or "taking a different direction" They've attracted a new set of fans and in concert they still do all their classics like Mr Brightside and When We Were Young etc and they're still great at doing those. I must admit I like their earlier stuff and now they seem more "Mr Flowers" than Killers but if it's your poison then it's fine.

I get the change thing, but... I'm not a fan of old or new killers really but they did one of the best sets I've ever seen, the passion and energy just poured out of them... These days they could suck the fun out of a line of coke.

That show was crapola. In defence of recent Killers tracks, I liked Runaways.I thought it was one of the best tracks they have ever made. But they didn't play it. The Orwells seems just about good enough to be on, but they were The Strokes in disguise..

Jools Holland is a DISGRACE, I grew up with the tube, but Later has been going down hill faster than a runaway round of cheese in Gloucestershire.

Bit like a roller coaster - "Later" always seems to go through phases.
I usually record them & then watch with daughter armed with a beer or two.

It can be fantastic ! ....but at times I find myself wondering if I'll bother recording the next episode.

Whatever your taste in music, Jools can be blandola at times, this was one of them. I think his researchers got all the mediocre artists all on one show, maybe next weeks will be much better, who knows, but I still tune in cos I like to listen to what he thinks we might like and I quite like Jools..

The Killers have gone just as bad as Kings Of Leon, Oasis & Coldplay etc..

Start off with some good tunes then distill until you reach x-factor levels of bland.

I rather like Kings of Leons new album.

Some people just don't like a good tune though - unless it's challenging, out of tune noise, with a shouty bloke up front and hurting their ears then it's 'shite'.

We're only one step away from The Brandon Flowers Pops now. It's inevitable.

Yeah, on television.

Telly is a dead medium. If you have access to STW you have access to almost any music ever made.

This is the best musical performance of 2013 imo, and it was on Later a few weeks ago. 😉

Not a pop

But for those of us not bother/have other things to do than trawl the internet.

Would you gents be so kind as to post up decent youtube channels ( or what ever) that can offer up wide range of music in a hour's "program"

Ta vmuch

Yep, last night was a shocker, The Orwells notwithstanding. But there has been some really good performances this series: London Grammer, Lorde, Goldfrapp, Poliça, The Savages... And it still pulls in the big names too. I wouldn't say it's had it's day.

Cheers,
Jamie

Sure that wasn't the Late Show (Kirsty Wark irrc)?
I actually wrote to the BBC to complain about their crap editing of the track! They re-broadcast it a few weeks after unedited. I like to think because of me. 🙂

God, that editing still offends me!

It can be a good show sometimes... But what drives me nuts is when he's got some really interesting band on, or some global superstar, but you have to sit through 10 minutes of Jools talking pish and fannying around with the piano. You don't tune in to see him, you tune in despite him.

It's what the extended Friday show and Sky+ were invented for.

Wow, people with different tastes in music shocker; who'd a thunk it?
As DezB says. I never watch it live, as there's always someone I'm not keen on, some programmes I'll go through the whole thing, others, like the one with the Manics on I deleted without watching, there wasn't anyone on there I was interested in. I really enjoyed most of the one with Macca on, there was a terrific blues guitarist on there.
Later.. is still a major shop-window for new artists; KT Tunstall got her big break by accident on there after some rapper cancelled out at the last minute and she was handy. Her using the loop pedal caused a sensation, which wouldn't have worked on Spotify or Soundcloud.
