I really need to stop my dad installing shite on his PC!

It's costing me hours in deleting tool-bars, viruses, and assorted rubbish that comes with PCs.

So to try and eliminate one problem, is there a simple web-browser that doesn't allow the installation of toolbars, search pages etc?

Thanks

I'm in the same boat with my Mum and her Windows 7 laptop.

On my last visit, I created an account with administrator rights, then changed her account from administrator to user. If that hasn't fixed it for my next visit, I will probably try something like the helpdeskgeek guide to Windows 7 local group policy editor:

But I'm sure there are people around here who may know a better way.

I created an admin account on my FiLs laptop and gave him a non admin account.

This was after some nice chap from Windows support installed something over the phone and offered to remove the various viruses he [s]found [/s] installed for £100.

This looks promising:

The offered solution should work for Firefox which I find much the most controllable of the popular browsers.

Supervised users can't install extensions or apps from the Chrome Web Store.

On windows, run gpedit.msc

Then navigate to computer configuration - administrative templates - windows components - internet explorer - security features - add on management.

Configure the deny all addons unless allowed in the add on list.
Configure any you (or he) actually needs in the add on list.

Then run gpupdate /force from a command prompt or reboot computer.

also as above, set up a separate admin account, there really is no need to be logged on with an admin account all the time.
