Is The Gray Man worth 122 minutes of my life?

Just saw a trailer for this new Russo brothers film. Quite a cast with Gosling, Evans, Thornton and de Armas. Trailer is entertaining enough but is the rest of the film rusk or good quality meat?

I’ve just finished it. Very formulaic fight/gun/car chase scenes, it’s a film that’s been done thousands of times before but it was ok brain chewing gum

The real question is can you think of anything that would be more fun, rewarding, fulfilling or constructive to do in 122 minutes than just sit on your arse and watch a harmless film which may or may not be any good?

For me, most of the time the answer is no. I watch a lot of films.

Is it better or worse than Red Notice?

Slightly better, it’s a different film, more like a mixture of Bond/Bourne/Anything with Statham in

Reckon I'll be giving it a watch at some point then.

Red Notice

Speaking as someone who would quite happily watch Gal Gadot do her tax return, red notice was utter rubbish.

I'm not a fan of Netflixs' strategy of contracting famous actors to appear in films whose only redeeming feature is that they star famous actors.

Well that was a load of utterly preposterous nonsense.

Great fun!

Mrs Binners was disappointed with the lack of exploding helicopters, right up until somebody shot down a helicopter with a rocket propelled grenade

Amiable brainrot that’s clearly having a right old laugh and the baddie had clearly modelled himself on Hedley Lamarr in Blazing Saddles

Yeah, just finished it, it's an action movie akin to the 80s or 90s with the leading man and bad guy, it does get a bit Team America with the collateral damage that happens around them, it's certainly not going to be remembered for long, which will be the big talking point as usual, $200 million on a 2 hour movie that's got similar feel to Red Notice in cost and output, i.e. put some of the biggest stars available in an action movie with a formulaic plot.

Have to say i'm baffled by the amount the likes of Netflix spends on these movies, not even sure how they go about working out how much they make or lose on a $200 million budget against the views they get, subs are down again so not sure there's anyone signing up to watch a one off film?

Watched it today and couldn't help but think that Freddie Mercury was in the film...

I'd hoped for a more satisfying ending, personally.

Just finished watching it. Having watched Red Notice I went in with lowish expectations but to be fair it exceeded those.

I’d hoped for a more satisfying ending, personally

Know what you mean but I think they were setting it up for a sequel

Could Truss be the Dmitry Medvedev to Boris Johnson's Putin?

TBH I don't think either of them have the wit to come up with such a cunning scheme.

No.
I Watched it last night.
Formulaic garbage with no novelty that I spotted.

Well another one off the list. Has Netflix ever done a good film? I'm halfway through so many of them.

It was a good film.

There was something unique in the movie. But I'd have to post a spoiler so I'm not going to. It's about the fights the female agent has with each of the bad guys. It was different than other films in the genre.

Aye, formulaic action nonsense but tolerable. Some stuff I need to dump within 5 mins, this I didn't. It isn't high art but then a bit of escapism doesn't hurt does it? Ending was lame/weird as in an obvious set up for the franchise/sequel.

Same her and similar can be said for the last wonder woman film.

I thought bright had a good concept but I kept getting Training day vibes from it.

If you added Netflix, prime and Disney you must be getting to serious outlay a month. Given how things are getting expensive you expect subs to plumet.

I get Netflix free with my Sky after renewal, same with Paramount Plus, which i get with Sky Cinema for free, Amazon is still student discount, Disney got binned as it's just not worth it.

Well we enjoyed it. It didn't feel like a two hour plus film.

Great action sequences. The plane scene was as breathtaking, as is AdA.

I lasted 15 minutes. It's like John Wick for stupid people. And given that John Wick was targeted at stupid people that says a lot.

We watched it last night. Enjoyable guff.
Will be interesting if they do continue the franchise, I've read a number of the books which are also guff but somewhat darker.

I binned it too, then saw the trailer and early opinions for Prey. Might need to try and find a free trial.

Can anyone who said it was shite let me know the last action film they enjoyed? I want to know what gems I've missed.

John Wick is all style and it sort of works.  For me the first 15mins were the most annoying as it was they were trying to tick off the most clichés that they could.  But it settled and got sort of ok.  I've watched a lot worse

It was an OK film to have with a beer(s) an a pizza, I wouldn't watch it again or its sequel and its full of cliche's.

I'll be watching John Wick 4 for sure.

@eddiebaby I certainly enjoyed 'Ambulance'.

I liked it for what it is, a couple of hours of shooting, fighting, riding a train, (well team in this case, but it's pretty much action film 101) car chases. I'd watch the sequel.

Fairly formulaic bilge. I enjoyed it 😁

CGI bits were pretty awful, I thought. Some lovely drone work.

Watching it now, no worse than Bond, even has the same actress in it as the last Bond film

Yeah, it's a no brain 2 hour action movie, and it's at least better than the fast and furious stuff

Strangely enough we watched the first John Wick yesterday and the Gray Man this afternoon.

Think I preferred the Gray Man, the Vienna / Prague scene was pretty impressive. Thought Ryan Gosling was pretty average - get him confused a lot with Ryan Reynolds - just not as funny.

Certainly sets a new bar for insane action sequences in a Bond / Bjorn esq film.

Much better than red notice.
Bit mindless, but some good fights and chuckled at some of the dry humour.

More importantly though, season 3 of blown away has just landed on Netflix

I gave up watching after about ten minutes but only because after watching some of the Jan 6 hearings, this kind of stuff just seems so trite and safe and pointless.

I would watch Ana de Amas read the ingredients list off a packet of digestive biscuits for 122 minutes to be honest...

She's dreamy!

Watched it yesterday. it's a bit drawn out. there are a few flashback scenes that would only normally be that long/involved in a directors cut. The hero isn't superhuman, which makes a change. (apart from main characters being shot/stabbed and maimed, but nothing a quick trip to the ER/pharmacy/vets/moms kitchen won't sort)

could be at least 20 min shorter.

fights were nicely choreographed, and the humour was welcomed. all in. 6/10.

I enjoyed it as far as it's a Netflix no brain drain watcher.

Also saw Thor love & thunder (cinema) at the weekend which was significantly worse.

Haven't seen this, and I'm not a fan of superhero guff, but I did enjoy the last Thor because of the Taika Waititi aspect.

Just thought, wouldn't it be great if he got to do a straight action comedy movie? Preferably starring Jason Statham.
