android, honor 10, on android 10.
just lately, when i ring anyone, or they ring me, they cant hear my voice, nothing, so they put it down thinking its a pocket dial or somethings. i can hear them fine tho.
ive experimented with calling other people, tried playing around with volume settings, and on one occasion it worked again. next call, they couldnt hear me.
we've sussed out now that if i get a call, and they cant hear me, if i press the speaker icon for speakerphone, they can hear me again.
my missus says my microphone must be knackered then, but i dont get that. if it was, they wouldnt be able to hear me on speakerphone either would they? its all the same mic?
and isnt speakerphone to make their voice carry over if i put the phone down and walk away, nothing to do with my voice?
just tried again with my wife. this time neither of us could hear each other til i pressed the speaker icon, then we both could.
its all confusing me 😀
anyone got any suggestions, settings to change etc? or is it some random weirdness that does indeed mean time for a new phone? sadly i think thats the answer.......
cheers
My old Samsung did this occasionally if I hadn't rebooted it once in a while. Scheduling it to reboot at 2am on Sunday sorted it.
I used to schedule on/off on my old Huawei just to save battery and cut down on disturbances so should be the same on your Honor.
Had exact same problem.
Mic for speakerphone usage is a different mic. Picks up from a different direction.
Your mic is broken.

ive just set mine to schedule on/off each night then, worth a try, altho ive just rebooted it now with no difference so the chances look to be slim.

ah, if its a different mic then that would make sense, i didnt know that. i'll try the above suggestion tonight and if that doesnt work (as it probably wont) then i'll look for another.
thanks a lot
Stupid suggestion...
Turn off Bluetooth etc and give it a try. A pushed update to my watch a few months back saw calls defaulting to my watch despite it no having a mic...
not a stupid suggestion at all, but i never have it on, so cant turn it off 🙂
ive just been googling which suggests disabling permissions for any apps that dont need phone or mic, so ive done a few of those with no difference. another suggested booting into safe mode, but try as i might, following all the instructions and youtube vids, mine never goes into safe mode.
bah.....
mine never goes into safe mode.
The trick is to make sure you squeeze the tip
Might not be this but do you have a screen cover/protector on it?
Had similar when I fitted one to an old phone. It wasn't quite right and disabled the proximity sensor so the phone wasn't aware that it was near my mouth/ear and the mic didn't want to work. Speaker worked though as that must not need the proximity sensor for it to function.
Might be similar, but might not...
nope, none of those, but...... its working again now.
i tried the old trick of pushing toothbrush bristles into the holes in case theres a blockage and it seems to have paid off. id have thought that if it was dirt in there then itd be muffled (ive had that before) rather than the black and white of either on or off, but hey ho 🙂
thanks for your suggestions, crisis averted for now.
