I almost felt sorry for him on Sky this morning facing the stiletto-knifed Adam Boulton.
I think it's wonderful how he knows what I want to know about, even though we've never met...
You going to pray for him MrWoppit?
D'you think it might work? ๐ฏ
Never mind stiletto-knifed Adam Boulton, he's up against the Sun now.
No (I don't think prayers will work), Yes I think he is a dead man walking.
'No more Boom or Bust', we will be judged on how we handled the recession. Yep very badly compared to many other countries. He rode the boom without managing it, reaped the rewards and was then seen to be utterly devoid of ideas or integrity when we really needed a strong principled leadership.
Not looking forward to Mr Cameron either, he's just modelled himself on Blair's politcal style of marketing over serious government. Trouble is Blair did it at the right time, what we are crying out for now is a government with a proper vision of how things should be and the bravery to unpick the mess we're in and rebuild our state in a coherent manner. We don't need constant knee jerk policies and legislation that push the opinion polls up for a few hours but are all implemented in isolation, often in contradiction of other things. You end up with an unworkable system and very mixed messages to the population as to what's expected of them.
it was the Sun wot won it
Seriously though, I think its going to be a lot closer than the polls are making out. Do you reckon most of the country is yearning to see Call-me-Dave and his Eton chums running the place?
A lot of people are going to hold their noses and vote labour
Even Sian Williams (isn't she cute for someone old enough to be most of ours mother???) on the BBC this morning ran rings around the useless clot.
And why-ohh-why do politicians insist on answering questions with 'no, the real question is*'. No, the real question is the one the ****ing interviewer just ****ing asked you, you moron.
*Rhetorical question.
Yep dead as michael Jackson, jam-on ๐
binners - Did no one in the current cabinet go to public school then?
I agree with binners. Labour will almost inevitably lose in May, but the current state of the polls will not be reflected in the election result.
Well... The health secretary went to school with me. And I'm barely-educated northern scum ๐
My point is that we all know whose interests the tories will be defending. The same interests they've always defended. ie: Next week will be the last time they'll be acknowledging that the North of England exists.
If anyone thinks that the tories have changed in any way from the slash and burn policies of Thatcher, they're living in cloud cuckoo land
If anyone thinks that the tories have changed in any way from the slash and burn policies of Thatcher, they're living in cloud cuckoo land
Instead we get similar mis-management from a different bunch? There are winners and losers no matter who is in charge and the majority have their own best interests at heart and to hell with the bigger picture.
All different shades, but they still smell of sh*t.
Yup he will lose certainly.
The sad fact is that I don't think anyone really wants Cameron to be PM, they are just sick of Labour and Cameron is 'a good communicator'.
Most of the reasons people give for not liking Brown are pretty spurious though - it basically boils down to the fact that he is Scottish and funny looking and a bit socially inept.
Stmupyjon gets my vote!
Well, I don't think that's ENTIRELY it, grumm.
He is boasting about how he single-handedly saved the economy. Without mentioning how his "light touch regulation" policies helped get us into the mess in the first place, for instance?
I'm not defending them MF. I think the whole New Labour project has been a disaster. It promised so much, yet failed on just about every level
I think the most depressing legacy will be the fundamental shift of power from the individual to the state. This horrendous authoritarianism and constant interference in peoples lives.
But does anyone know one single policy that Cameron has committed too? And I can bet we'll be none the wiser by the end of the Tory conference next week
He is boasting about how he single-handedly saved the economy. Without mentioning how his "light touch regulation" policies helped get us into the mess in the first place
Is it really though? I mean I'm all for greater regulation, think he was stupid to claim an end to boom and bust etc etc - but is that really why people don't like him?
I think it mostly just boils down to people being sick of New Labour, plus not finding him very personable. Also, while he may have done things to exacerbate the impact of the world financial crisis on this country, he didn't cause it - there are thousands of morons out there blaming every single job loss etc on him.
It's just occurred to me to wonder, as people's disenchantment with our politics grows and less and less people bother to vote, at what point will elections not be worth the candle?
Following that, what measures might the state take to legitemise it's continuance, do we suppose?
Is Gordon a "Dead Man Walking"?[b]
Nope I've checked!...Dead Men Walking's line up is still Mike Peters, Captain Sensible, Slim Jim Phantom and Kirk Brandon.. no sign of the dour Scotsman! ๐
>But does anyone know one single policy that Cameron has committed too (sic)
Scrapping ID cards.
binners - Those interests that the Tories are apparently so interested in defending, I'm guessing you mean big business, the banks etc yes? Just how much has the main 'socialist' party of the UK dolled out from our taxes to prop up these industries recently?
There is a shortage of detail from Cameron's lot. Read the long piece in this months Prospect by Julian Glover if you want to feel (a little) better about how they actually think about the world.
Nope I've checked!...Dead Men Walking's line up is still Mike Peters, Captain Sensible, Slim Jim Phantom and Kirk Brandon.. no sign of the dour Scotsman!
Never heard of this lot - I assume it is The Damned's Capn and Spear of Destiny's Kirk Brandon???? Any good? Worth a listen? And pardon my ignorance, but what famous bands were the others (inevitably) members of????
Like I said, I'm not defending him.
Choosing between tories and labour at the moment is a bit like asking if you want your shit boiled or fried. Either way is pretty unpalatable
What stumpyjon said!
If anyone thinks that the tories have changed in any way from the slash and burn policies of Thatcher, they're living in cloud cuckoo land
I agree with mastiles_fanylion. People aren't going to vote Tory because the Tories have any solutions to offer. They will simply vote Tory because they are not New Labour. Cameron knows that's his trump card, that's why he is keeping his mouth shut.
If anyone is expecting things to get better under the Tories, then they will be sorely disappointed.
What happens to Labour after the general election defeat will be interesting though.
Mike Peters...still fronts the Alarm, Slim Jim Stray Cats, Yep pretty good especially live...no new stuff just cover the best songs from their respective bands and have some good banter!
I predict that within 6 months of an election, Cameron will have approval ratings that will make Brown look like Churchill.
Because, no matter what he says now (and lets be honest, its not a lot), the tories are going to take a hatchet to the public services the second they're in.
And all this guff about scrapping ID cards etc will be forgotten once they're in power
Slim Jim Stray Cats
Ahh yes - thought I recognised that name.
>And all this guff about scrapping ID cards etc will be forgotten once they're in power
I think you're wrong there IMO.
I think you're wrong there IMO.
what? you think people will say never mind, at least we're not going to have to have an ID card?
Labour have dumped the idea now anyway - for the foreseeable future
What happens to Labour after the general election defeat will be interesting though.
Bankruptcy and dissolution.
the tories are going to take a hatchet to the public services the second they're in.And all this guff about scrapping ID cards etc will be forgotten once they're in power
I think that either party will have to take draconian measures to sort out the public finances.
For all of the Tories failings and lack of coherent policy I don't think that they'll be bringing in ID cards.
>what? you think people will say never mind, at least we're not going to have to have an ID card?
binners was suggesting that the tories, should they gain power, will ignore their current statements about scrapping ID cards and will introduce them. I disagreed with him.
Jeez - I would happily be microchipped and have a barcode tattooed across my c+ck-end if the party in power could sort out the rest of the ****ing mess we are in - ID cards really are a minor concern.
We've crept past a decade of Labour and the populace are fed up and want a change. They have forgotten the lows of the past, just as they will have forgotten the current fuss in another 12 years. Unfortunately, like it or not, in a year our PM will be Cameron, Blair's failed clone, and the economy will be run by Osborne, a man who has never had a proper job.
My plan for economic recovery - Scrap the Olympics (re-instating Eastlands) and scrap the armed forces (become a protectorate of the US like Costa Rica) and we'd have loads of cash to play with.
Scrap the Olympics
So have the majority of the outlay and none of the inward tourist money and increase in profile?
Osborne, a man who has never had a proper job.
I wonder why he changed his name from Gideon to George?
and the economy will be run by Osborne, a man who has never had a proper job.
Remind me again, what "proper job" did the Historian, Gordon Brown hold before he became Chancellor and then PM?
I wonder why he changed his name from Gideon to George?
To disguise the fact that he is a pan-dimensional space-lizard.
To disguise the fact that he is a pan-dimensional space-lizard.
Could be - I here Gideon is common in reptilian circles
The sad fact is that I don't think anyone really wants Cameron to be PM, they are just sick of Labour and Cameron is 'a good communicator'.
I'm not sure anyone ever wins an election do they? (not in this country anyway) People just get sick of who's is in power and vote them out. The other party wins by default.
CaptainFlashheart - Member"and the economy will be run by Osborne, a man who has never had a proper job."
Remind me again, what "proper job" did the Historian, Gordon Brown hold before he became Chancellor and then PM?
Well he certainly had more jobs than Osborne, that's for sure.
But what is your point Flashheart ........... that the Tories are just as crap as New Labour ?
Thought so .......... see, you and me can agree on so much 8)
The difference is the Tories seem to be at least honest in their intentions to slash public spending and carry on being best mates with big business, whilst Labour will continue to lie and make out such 'principles' are only held by that toff and his Eaton buddies.
Deaad man walking. Lets hope so.
The man is a national embarrassment.
Nothing different from this Labour government as previous Labour efforts. Still, we haven't quite got to the point of going to the IMF with cupped hands this time round.
