...as good an improvement as a soundbar?
I quite like the idea, and i prefer the look as well as the slightly realised level of the TV, but are they as good?
Any experiences or comparison?
TIA
Parents in law have a Sony one, no idea of the model I'm afraid, but it sounds good. No comparison to a sound bar, but I reckon there's more volume for speakers, so it shouldn't be too compromised.
Cheers, Rich
Have an lg sound plate.... Much better sound and very easy to set up with the lg tv. Bonus is that it will play music via Bluetooth from iPad etc ..
@turboferret - is it not as good as a soundbar then? If I'm going to spend money, the improvement is the biggest factor, I just wondered if there was much difference between the two.
Rick - can you say why you chose the plate, rather than a soundbar?
Thanks all...
This is interesting as, today, I came v close to pushing the button on a sony ht xt1 but the tesco boost points was a bit short after a recent purge!
I've sound tested it in currys and it is quite impressive.
I looked at these as with a sound bar, a seperate sub woofer will almost inevitably be needed to get any sort of bass. I listened to a highly rated yamaha sound bar in richer sounds, just the bar, no sub, and it was lame, tinny.
With the board arrangement, the volume in the cabinet allows for decent ish size subwoofer speakers and the cabinet cavity allows the bass to be fired out from the bottom.
I was erring on the sony through the impressive test, brand loyalty and tesco vouchers. Now that latter influence has gone by the wayside, the denon dt100 is coming back into consideration. These are around £100 less than the sony but I've haven't heard one yet. They do get a good review though but I'd rather hear one.
If you're feeling flush, the canton is supposed to be the best of this design, but a bit pricey.
If you get one, it'd be useful to post a review back on here as I'd love to hear some real feedback.
Edit....cambridge audio minx tv should also be on your audition list.
Just to add, I don't have anywhere to put a subwoofer so the one box solution is lounge and mrs rock friendly.
If you have space for a bass, I reckon a soundbar plus woofer would be a better sound.
fadda,
im not a hifi guru but wanted better sound than the crappy speakers in the lg tv... plus, minimum cables.... i didnt hear it before buying, i just went on the review.
read the online reviews which were positive against similar price sound bars. Its sat on a big wooden empty tv stand so the bass is pretty good. On the bottom of the sound plate are two downward facing speakers and these work well with the cabinet its all sat on.
Stereo separation I guess would be better with a sound bar but this is fine for me. Both products are LG so the connection was easy...
Thin, unobtrusive, works with out being overcomplicated, does bluetooth. Its a fit forget and enjoy thing. Well made, should last a fair while.
Would have been nice to hear it against a sound bar before buying but happy
HTH
rickmeister - thank you, you sound like me; not an expert, but wanting a bit better than the standard TV.
rockhopper - thanks also, that's helpful. I've seen the Cambridge and the canton you mentioned in the waphat HiFi reviews, so may go on their opinions and just buy the Cambridge.
Luckily I'm not going to be at home for a week, so I have to resist the impulse just yet... 🙄
I brought the Denon one for the TV in the bedroom as wanting a bit better sound and the other nice bits like Bluetooth streaming for music from phones etc.
First night I set it up downstairs to give it a decent listen (and not wake the kids)
Played Pacific rim on blueray (as it's supposed to be quite a good test soundtrack) and it was fantastic, I was really surprised at the depth of sound and the quality, really good.
I nearly brought another one I was that impressed.
But I have decided to finish the proper surround sound set up in the living room instead.
I'd thoroughly recomend the Denon, and Superfi have it on offer at the moment below £200 as well
All I would say is that the cambridge is a bit of a "lump".
Not very well finished and I think it might look a bit more obvious...if that is going to be an issue.
Got a Denon DHT-T100 and it's a real improvement over the sound from the Samsung TV sitting on it. Bluetooth music streaming works well but the main reason I chose the Denon was that you can get it to learn from your tv/sky remote so that you only need one controller.
Good calls on that Denon - I can feel my "buy now" finger itching... 😆
I've the Denon too and really pleased with it.
I'm still looking at this and there is a seller on ebay doing grade b units for £129.99.
I think it is the ebay store of superfi, denon dealer who also sell grade b units but at £199.99.
I've posted them a question as if it is legit (and it comes with a 12 month warranty) the price may make it a no brainier.
Any experiences of the Maxell range? They seem to do very well in the reviews and you're getting a lot for the money, particularly all the HDMI inputs/ARC stuff.
Update.
I have bought a denon.
I managed to get the refurbished unit from hyperfi, £129.99.
WOW...I am really impressed. The bass is fantastic but all the shrill and detail of soundtracks is picked out brilliantly....harry potter never sounded so good.
So, if your on the fence, I would definitely recommend the denon, more so at that price.
Just grow a pair and buy some proper speakers, not pretend ones. 😉
No space for proper kit.
I guarantee you that my lounge is smaller than yours and my wife is quite happy with the 5.1 surround system with proper sized speakers and an amp. 😉 IIRC the room size is about 3x4.5m
2.9m x 4.4m my lounge.
😉
With a less tolerant wife when it comes to wires and boxes!
I don't doubt your system sounds better but I'm dead chuffed with the Denon base.
